Speedo cable removal (for electronic speedo)
« on: February 08, 2016, 12:53:51 PM »
Hi there!

The next change I plan for my bike will be to remove both the stock speedometer and tach and replace with a "Motoscope tiny" electric speedo. Now I've found out that I'm going to need a plug for the hole where the tach cable goes, but what to do about the speedo cable, or rather, the device at the front wheel where the speedo cable is going? Is that something that can just be removed or do I need some sort of plug for that one too? If so, are there plugs for it readily available?

If anybody here has ever installed one of these speedos and their sensors, I'd also be happy about posted pics that show the attachment of the magnetic sensor.

Cheers!

You may be able to use the same plug for the speedo. If you haven't had that screw out I suggest you use an impact driver as they can turn into a nightmare.

Thanks for the heads-up, if that works, it'll be fine. Regarding the screw, I know what you're talking about, it was a horror show getting it out without a impact driver, and even when I removed it again (new screw this time) only a year later it sat still pretty tight although I hardly tightened it and even put some WD40 on the year before...

When I installed my electronic speedo I modified a speedo drive off a VFR750.  I only had to thin it down by 100 thou.  There are details in the link in my signature.  ;D

Plug the hole, drill the disk, glue the magnet and install the sensor. Many ways to do it.
