change fork tube - no center stand
« on: February 22, 2016, 05:34:26 am »
hi!
im turning a cb 750 into a cafe racer. now i have to change the tubes in the front fork. anybody has any good ideas how to do this without center stand, a good roof to lift the bike or anything else...
when i changed the top triple tree i layed the bike on the side - worked fine!  8)
i could do this again. but maybe it will damage the bike somehow?
what do you think - is it safe to lay the bike on the side for maybe two hours...

Build a little "A" frame (like on a saw horse)...should fit between the steering neck and frame.

i know this is using a center stand, but the idea is the same. pics taken off my blog. http://thirstforspeed.blogspot.ca
build a similar front frame
take off header
support bike on bolts for front engine mount

I use a wide ratchet strap attached to the ceiling joists and hoist it up. Works great and is very safe.
