« on: February 23, 2016, 03:52:58 PM »
A few of you guys are looking for an OEM K3 seat for me, but in case we can't find one I was looking at this.
Anyone ever try one of these? Quality / fit?

Not familiar with them, but I bought a cover from a fellow in Canada - gumtwo - for my 550 and I can't say enough good things about it.  Dunno if he's got covers for 750's - but http://www.ebay.com/sch/gumtwo/m.html?item=160981465259&hash=item257b3e38ab%3Ag%3ATLUAAMXQySpRK9Xe&vxp=mtr&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

I too bought a cover 2 months ago for my K1 750 pseudo chopper from gumtwo. Good quality and fit. Mine has a stitched pattern on the top, not an embossed one though. The material used is much more supple and comfortable to sit on as compared to the material used on the new Honda K1 seat I purchased 3 years ago for my K1 restoration. The piping is just a smidgeon off the original but the screen printed "Honda" on the rear of the seat is an exact match.

1979 CB750Fz - original except for exhaust, 14000km
1984 VF45F Interceptor - all original, 12000 km

1973 H2a, Restored
1973 H1D, next project

I have ordered one from gumtwo and will check it out. I have a couple seats here so I will give it a go and report back on how the installation and quality is. I did replace a KO seat cover in 2008 and it went real well. The KO seat turned out fantastic. I ended up selling it and buying a red foam one from Yamiya back then. It was my first KO and I wanted it perfect with the new foam and all.

I too used the cover from gumtwo on my "Evolution" K8 project:

New gator teeth upholstery strips riveted to the seat pan to hold the new seat cover:

New skin stretched into place:

All that work just for this:

That turned out real nice. I recall my fingers were pretty sore after I did the work on the KO seat. All that stretching and pulling. The hair dryer helped out too.

Definitely a hair dryer helps.  I recovered mine 3 years ago now and it still looks new.  I think you'll be pleased with it.  I kinda like the stitching - mine's just an everyday runner so I wasn't worried about being too authentic, and the seat had a damn rip in it!  Black duct tape only takes you so far.  :D

I've recovered a few seats too, pretty basic stuff.  Dont recall what ebay seller I used, but was real pleased with the result on this 550 seat.
Reuse the old strap if possible, the straps that I've received with the covers were trash.

When I did mine (I forget the brand) I got the HONDA on the back slightly angled....be careful.

It was my first try recovering and I didn't even think about that being straight at the time

That 550 seat looks great Stev-o. Good point Jay about the logo. Here is the seat I am going to cover. If it looks good I have another I may do too.

That seat looks like a good candidate, you can do it!  Strap looks to be in good shape and the chrome trim as well.

Correct Stev-o...this seat came from a 74 CB750 I got in Milwaukee for $100 a few years ago. It had 5,300 miles on it and was locked up. The PO bought it new and drove it a couple years then bought a Harley. The 750 just sat after that and froze up.

+1, newer straps are mostly junk regardless of the quality of the cover.

Good tip Gene. Gumtwo says his straps are superb compared to the cheaper covers, but I will see if that is the case and report back.

Johnie..I'm late to the party, but I bought from the seller you listed for my 550. Very close match, but mine didn't include the chrome
trim. I had to cut off the old chrome strip from the original cover, reinstall it back on the sharp edge of the seat pan, and then wrap and fasten the new cover. It looks very nice and the quality is pretty decent, but I don't have the chrome trim. Somebody here,
I think it was "oldhat"found a supplier for seat trim that was nearly identical to the original. You might P.M. him. If I had to do it
over, and I might, I'd use something different on the pan edge, use wilbur's method of cover retension, the spike strips, and find
the authentic  trim. In my mind, that would be as close to original as you could get. Those covers, for the price are a good deal IMO.

Thanks DH. The seat trim is pretty nice from the old seat so I plan to use that. I got a message from gum two and he said to put a plastic bag over the seat before I start the install. Says it slides over the foam a lot easier. Sounds like good advise.

I used those springy black metal paper clips to hold the cover on while I worked it over the tabs and pins on my 76SS seat.

Don I like that clip idea. Good way to do it and then be sure it is straight before working it over the tabs and pins.

I have used a Gumtwo seat cover before.  His instructions include the use of wooden clothes pins.  I didn't think his seat strap was superb.  It was much flimsier than original.  I just re-used the orignal.  Overall the seat cover was very nice, especially for the low cost.  All this was on a '76 550k.
