I had this issue before. Are you running the wires outside the bars? If so, there's likely a break in the wire's insulation and it is shorting to the bar.
How I figured this out (with the help of the forum)... if you loosen the RH switch pod's bolts, does the problem go away? You're going to have to put some shrink tube around those wires (or just replace them) and make a cutout in the switch housing to relieve some of that pressure.
Also make sure the spring for the starter button was installed correctly, and is allowing enough pressure on the button to push it off the contact.
