Time for an update. Almost forgot that I had this build thread going on. Some new things coming up for the bike. Some have been done so a quick catch up before we move ahead.

It's been two summers that I haven't done anything for the bike. No new mods. Nothing. I've rode it and it served well. No big issues. After this last season I tackled a problem that I had with Hondaman ignition. I couldn't get it to fire cylinders 2 & 3 and I gave up and just left it on the bike and rode without it these two summers. Now I had the motivation to get back at it again and solved the problem with Mark.  I had to send the part back to Mark and there was most likely a faulty transistor in the unit. I got a warranty replacement and it worked like it should.

I also had a tire clearance issue with my back tire hitting beneath the seat in bigger bumps so I had to find longer shocks. Well, my Ikons were brand new so I just made them longer. Maybe not the nicest looking option, but I'm happy with the result. Reinforced those welds with an extra plate on the outside of the fork. I gained about 20mm more height. Tyre has now enough room.

So, what to do next. I'm trying to lower those gauges next. I have clipons waiting to be mounted and those gauges stand too upright with them to my taste. I'm trying to keep the old gauges because I like the old worn look of them. Only problem is that they mount like the early ones. Not beneath. I have to figure out somekind of bracket for them. I allready have k5 top triple waiting so I don't have to modify this "rhino" type triple. I just hope the k5 part fits.

They make aluminum shock extenders, that you can remove if need be.
 You also could have put a second bumper or spacer in the shock  but it reduces travel.

On going task was to lower those gauges. I bought newer top triple ('75 maybe) and measured a bracket. Bracket was waterjet cutted from 5mm aluminium plate. Then bended in industrial press. About 7 degree angle.

Bracket is now waiting to be powdercoated, but will post pictures when assembled.

Little setbacks rised. When I changed to clip-ons old cables were too long. So I managed to make the clutch cable to correct lenght but throttle cables were and are problematic. I think I have to order shorter ones. I just can't find a way to reroute them or make them shorter without destroying them.

Another issue is a small oil leak from the mission/left cover area. Tought it was the cover leaking but there is an old damage in the crankcase. Chain has snapped and hit the case and broke a hole in it. It has been repaired with JB weld or something and it is not sealing properly anymore. So I cleaned the old stuff with dremel as well as I could and patched it with chemical metal. Temporary fix and I hope it doesn't leak anymore. I will get it to welder and fix it properly when I get the engine off the bike.

Previous owner mentioned that he put bigger jets in, but I`m not sure what size so I have to contact the guy. This carburator thing is a bit dark zone to me. I have to look in to that after I got the front end sorted out.



Don't be intimidated by the carburetors they are fairly simple. Pull them off carefully as to not tear the insulator boots....drain the bowls first of course. Put it on your bench bowls up and pulls the bowls off...be careful of the gasket so you don't break it. You should see two jets in each... an idle jet (slow jet) and a main jet. Their sizes are stamped on the sides of them.

Easy peasy

Got the headlight back on. Happy with the result how the gauge lowering turned out. Yellow headlight also looks quite nice.

Waiting for throttle cables to arrive and then it's time to put the tank back on and start this thing.
