Counter Shaft ( Drive ) Sprocket ?
« on: April 19, 2016, 05:20:27 PM »
I noticed when I removed my Stock Chain from my 75' CB 750 K5 that the front stock 17-T (  sprocket is stamped 750 ) seemed to have a little side to side play ? Is this common or is the sprocket mounted on the splined shaft backwards ? Both sprockets F/R appear to be in good shape. Maybe the front sprocket doesn't have as much center shoulder ( raised portion ) in the rear ? If that's the case, would reversing the sprocket correct the play or does a thin spacer need to be behind the sprocket ?

You're good. Normal.

FYI the stock front sprocket for your bike is 18T. That 17T will give you better responsiveness/acceleration.

That's good to know. I couldn't find anything in the shop manual that indicated which way to the sprocket went. I should of looked at the sprocket closer before I installed it to see if the other side was raised more and if that would make the sprocket mounting tighter. The sprocket is definitely 17-T but wonder why it's stamped 750 ?  I just thought it was the stock sprocket.

+1 to Frank.

It should have/probably has equal shoulders on each side.
