So the other day the town of Solvay sends a letter saying they were going to suspend my license if I don't pay $130 for a 10 year old parking ticket.  I could hardly believe it.  How am I supposed to remember a ticket from 10 years ago when I can't even remember what I had for lunch last week.

I called them up, and the officer in charge said all I had to do was send $80.  Guess they were cleaning up old records or something.  Welcome to NY.

I have seven outstanding traffic tickets in Hawaii from over 20 years ago, the cop told me to go home and never come back!

For most traffic tickets, there is no statute of limitations.  Some states will offer amnesty after a certain amount of time, some will turn the tickets over to a collection agency and they can affect your credit.  Read more here:

I was ready to do that, but didn't want to get pulled over with a suspended license.  With all those plate scanners and other tech they know the second you pull out of your driveway and are there to give you a ticket.

Agreed. Show up to court to challenge it. The issuing office has to show and should have to show proof.

A few years ago I got a letter from the West Virginia police claiming I hadn't stopped at a toll booth on a turnpike of theirs and that I owed X amount of dollars and the license plate number they had matched the plate on a 75 cb550 I had at the time. The letter gave an email address to contact them so I emailed them back saying they obviously must have a photo of my lawlessness and if so I'd sure like to see it because unless their turnpike somehow meandered it's way through the state of Indiana then I assured them that my bike had yet to cross the state line let alone all the way to West Virginia. They immediately dropped it.

I received a letter a few years back saying my license would be suspended if i didn't pay a fine from 1982... I dropped into the local Police station and they just laughed, they said that they had no records going that far back so there was no proof the fine existed, I went to the local court house and spoke to the clerk, I also explained that the bike that I supposedly committed the traffic infringement on had been sold before that date and that I lived in another state at the time. After  months of back and forth rubbish and continuing to threaten me with loss of license, I convinced the clerk to take it back through the court with the information I had supplied, it was immediately thrown out of court and into the bin...

Last year on the same road, I got caught in the E-Z Pass lane during heavy traffic and couldn't  get out.

I don't have an E-Z Pass....so, I pulled over after passing thru the toll booth, risked life and limb to walk up to a manned booth to explain and pay cash.

"Sorry, we can't take money after you pass thru"! $#%&^+#$!

Been there, done that. Twice.  Very easy to get stuck on E-Z Pass lane going from 66 to Beltway.   paid $2 for the use and $13 for admin fee or something like that.
