Where to get Polynesian Blue paint?
« on: April 22, 2016, 02:14:49 PM »
Well the end of the road may be in sight...my 1971 Jap market CB750 now runs perfectly, changes gears properly, the clutch doesn't take a gorilla to pull it in, brakes work decently, chain goes around etc......

Now Im at the paint stage and my buddy down the road is going to paint it for me, in Polynesian Blue if we can find the paint....Poly Blue was a Japanese market colour in 1971.
Checked with Randy at Marble Motors in Texas and he doesn't have any paint.....
Can anyone help with a recommended supplier?
Thanks
Al

Just like flybox1 said VMR Paints they even carry the correct silver paint for the engine, I just painted my 71 tank and covers, light bucket and fork ears last fall I love there paint goes on very nice and they ship very quickly but make sure you have your items ready to paint because the hardner  has a short shelf life in the bottles they ship it in.

is it the same as the correct original Candy paint, where you lay down the extra fine silver metallic, and then each layer of blue darkens the colour until you get the shade right?

Yes that is the one, I have had very good luck with VMR paint they even have the precise formula for the Sunrise Orange. Just make sure you take your time in prepping your tank and other items that is the most important part of the paint job.
I also like to use a guide coat on the items as it will show any low spots in the surface.
I don't get on here as often as I would like but if you have any more questions just PM me.

The original 1971 CB750 Polynesian blue is a single stage metallic paint: primer, poly blue metallic and clear.

Honda candy colors use: primer, silver base, multiple color coats and clear.

Polynesian blue was also available on the USA 1971 CB450K4 which shared the same Honda color code: EG

The VMR link posted in reply #1 is a good example for the correct color code paint.

Yep Im now very clear on the fact that Poly Blus isnt a candy colour....
Interstingly, VMR cannot ship to Canada, but the UK guys (RS Paint) do ship in small containers to comply with shipping laws. They dont ship reducer but I buy that locally anyways so no worries...Im almost good to go....just gotta wait for paint to arrive.
Bike is all shiny and polished, new tyres, replated nuts and bolts, almost perfect pipes, decent original seat, just waiting for the painting and it will be smoother than a gravy sandwich, and Ill post photos....

Looking forward to seeing the results of that paint color. My bike is that color, and I was going to paint a fairing to match.
