A unique fairing Kevin. Don't think I've ever seen a oil gauge in the oil tank. My K6 has one mounted on right side of engine. I see a fitting (where mine is) and line running toward front of bike. Your friend and PO did he build this bike?

Thats an oil temp gauge in the oil tank it has an oil pressure gauge up on the fairing.  No he didn't build it he bought it in NY in the early 90's.  I wish I knew the guy who built it I would love to hear the story.  Whoever owned this bike to amazing care of it the frame paint is like new the inside of the tank and carbs spotless.  Maybe one of the cleanest bikes i've had and its shows 42,000 miles on the odometer so this bike didn't sit still much.  It has two inspection stickers from ny state one is from 1974 the other is from 1993.  I believe the 1993 was probably from my friend when he bought it. I don't think he road it much at all.  He told me he brought it to a vjmc show in nyc years ago and nobody appreciated it so he said he'd never show it again and I don't think he ever did.  I would think it being such an unusual bike someone would remember seeing the bike but then again its been in storage for 23 years.

Are you going to put original exhaust in it?  Will they fit with fairing?

Original 300's in good condition would be next to impossible to find. But they are repoping them...

 I think it looks fine just like that..time capsule survivor machine....... or you spend 6K to make it look JUST LIKE THE OTHERS...

 It's an amazingly cool bike. Only people in the know might appreciate it. I'd look for any history and document it if it's there.

It is cool but remember, it's a Sandcast.  I'm certainly not a purist but all Sandcasts should be left stock!

All those cool bits could be put on one of his other 750's.

Imho, it would look even cooler with 4-in-4's but other than that, stay true to the vision!
There are many stock sandcasts in the world but that is truly unique!

When I first saw Kevin's thread subject title* Found a sandcast* when I clicked on it I was expecting to see a original stock bike and more than likely blue green in color just like my 750KO. When it wasn't it threw me for a minute because hey it didn't look like a sandcast (not being stock) this couldn't be one. Must be another mistake identity. But I knew Kevin knew his stuff so it couldn't be that. What I'm saying is in our minds we are trained to think when we here SC CB750 it's going to be a untouched not modified original bike. I guess we've all learned here that it doesn't have to be.

I plan on keeping it the way it is but going to start collecting the original bits to bring it back to stock like some of you stated.  I too find it just too cool and unusual to change.  I do plan on fitting a set of 300's on the bike and seeing if the fairing will still fit but the hooker 4-1 sounds pretty tough.  The engine started and ran perfect with new plugs, tec points, and fresh fuel.  I also checked valves, cleaned the carbs, set the timing and sync'd the carbs.  The bike is very quiet and smooth at idle, so much I turned the idle screws so it will idle at 500 rpms.  I've never had one that would idle perfect that low its very impressive.  I'm assuming that the motor had to have had a rebuild for it to be that smooth and quiet with 42,000 miles on the clock.  Almost no valve train noise which is rare for these bikes.  I can't wait to ride it its sounds very strong.  Just waiting on new tires and registration.

Good plan.   I don't know how you managed to not ride it, unless the tires are terribly dry-rotted.

 I have an original K4 with 49,000 miles and it rides like a new one, shifts amazingly, idles well etc. I think a lot depends on how it was serviced and how it was ridden.
 Ultimately your bike will become what it should be  and that is only what you think is correct I enjoy having a modified bike and an original bike, both benefitted from a little parts swapping. At some point I'd like to display them side by side.

 Your story sounds familiar. My next door neighbor now who lives in his Dads old house next to mine now, had many sandcast bikes in his collection.  He used to muse with Vic World in the early days when he was stuffing parts in mommas house in Ohio.Unfortunately he lost some/lot of them them when he lost his other house and ran into an unscrupulous buyer with 'monkey' in his name from Wisconsin  even though I tried to turn a member on here to the deal and he sold before I made an offer. Still has a couple in his entry way and parts that I can visit when I walk next door. He likes to tease me with his huge pile of original 750 and 350/4 pipes he still has in plastic and boxes--Bastard !!

When I saw the picture in your first post, I said to myself, "self, that is an original dolphin fairing."
I only saw one actually on a bike back in the 70's, but always thought it was really cool.
I don't believe it's a Vetter type, I just can't remember what company actually built the one you've got, but don't let it go or get damaged!!!!!
It's almost as classic as the sandcast!!!!!!

Are you in NJ?  If so, I'd like to meet up with you.

Awesome i didn't think it was a vetter phantom it has a bit more detail to it like the rib over the headlight.  Whoever built it it was done very well the fiberglass is very thick.  I looked for any type of marking and couldn't find anything.  I think the fairing is the coolest part of the bike!!!

This is the same fairing.  Its funny years ago when I first saw the bike my friend(the owner) made the comment "it has a james bond fairing on it they are very rare"
