Topic: Tore my clutch apart again. Please help, share opinions. (This is making me insane.)

I took everything apart again because of multiple issues. When cold I can hear the clutch chatter, or squak. Sounds like when a car is in dire need of a clutch. Everything has been replaced with the ebc stuff and new steels. Original engine had 8000 miles on it before I got it and did the cylinders and head over so that's what's on the basket and pressure plate. It also was very rough both engaging and release. If you watch the video I'm going to post you'll see that the steels have very odd wear after 3000 miles. Some plates are worn in just one spot and others don't have any marks at all. This is very strange. By comparison my other 550 has the same parts and is very smooth.

Two things:

The gear is loose on the basket because the rubber plugs behind it are old. There are no replacements, and it isn't a big deal.

Are the fingers on the clutch worn? Any notches that the clutch plates might get hung up on?

It doesnt seem like they are getting hung up, however maybe I should file and polish the edges a bit?

I think we all would like to know what bike it is about. If it's a CB550F you must know that the clutch (plates) have been modified by Honda and I wonder if EBC ever followed that. Wouldn't hurt to have a look at the clutch pages in the parts list CB500 F, F1 and then the CB550 F2. They're all here:

It is a 77 cb550k. I spent the afternoon polishing any areas where the sprags contact the hub or basket. The were a few little divits from the teeth which i filed down with an ultra fine file. Now I'm going to order a Barnett kit, and hopefully all the time I just spent was worth it.
