High Horse Chopper at the Strip
« on: May 18, 2016, 02:55:30 AM »
I rode my CB750A out to the track this past Sunday since I was racing our drag car.  I haven't run the bike at the track since last year, before I swapped out the 5.25/5.50-17 vintage Firestone car tire setup for an MT90-16, and I've been wanting to see the difference in the numbers.  I only got a couple runs on the bike, but my best was 14.81 @ 93.67 mph with a 2.522 60ft (track is at 2267' elevation).  Super boggy off the line because I'm not at all used to the slow roll onto the throttle at launch (in the race car it's throttle to the floor up on the rev limiter and just lift off the brake to launch).  Last year I ran a 15.38 @ 90.47 mph with a 2.381 60ft.

Of course, I didn't build it to race but it's still interesting to get some numbers anyhow.  Just thought I'd share it with you fellahs.  Here's a vid:

I like your style.  Obviously it's not the most ideal setup for drag strip use, but I'm sure you knew that :)

Looks like a hoot to ride though...

Cheers, George.

Bill, I never checked my tach while stalling it up (would need more seat time to be able to add that to the focus).  I basically held the brakes (eventually tried rear only, as the front drum is pretty weak anyhow and that freed up my throttle hand), brought the rpms up, and lifted off the rear brake to launch while trying to roll the trottle on slow enough to not stall it.  Seems like maybe I should not even twist the throttle on launch until the bike gets a little momentum, so as not to bog...?  They ran the bikes on a pro tree to even things out I guess, because there were only about 5 bikes and a sled so they ran us all in the same class.  The pro tree was brutal, so I tried a deep stage in that run in the video.  I might try a Friday night with it again when it's just time trials.

Also, when I staged on round one in that vid I hadn't noticed they misread my 14.80 dial in as 14.20, so I had no chance in that race anyhow.
