Tornado In North Carolina
« on: November 17, 2006, 05:18:19 am »

Gosh, I sure do feel for the folks that got hit by that tornado in NC. :( They had no
idea until it was there. Used to dodging Hurricanes, not Tornadoes. I know we have some
members out in NC and I hope ALL of our folks are okay. My prayers go out to all those
affected, in what ever way. :(    Aren't duster and KC out there in NC?

                                                                Later on, Bill

Update: Well, after checking, I realized that duster lives in Virginia. However, KCs76Cafe does
live in Jackson Creek, NC. Tornado was in Riegelwood, NC. Don't know how close those 2
towns are to each other. Again, I hope and pray that none of our folks were affected by this.

duster, I'm glad for that. For some reason I was thinking you were in NC, and after I doublechecked, I realized that you weren't. At last count, they had 8 dead and about 20 injured. That sucker took out an area that was 1/2 mile wide and 1 mile long. They said some bodies were found up to 200yards away from the path. Such destructive power!

That's down there near where Lumbee and I were raised up.

I remember as a kid going out to look at Tornado damage.
Got a tobacco warehouse in Fairmont (where I grew up) once
and it sorta picked the whole roof up and then set it back down
after the walls fell in. (Tobacco warehouse are probably 40,000 square feet).
That twister just set down in that one spot and then bounced out of town.
Once passed through Camden SC (same general area) and look
over at some brick houses that looked liked they had been bombed.
Then re-called I'd just heard something about a Tornado on the news the
night before.

They give little to no warning and there they are.

I never heard of a tornado getting up in the mountains.  Occasional flood, downed trees, and no decent BBQ.

I only have seen the results of tornadoes when I lived in the Southeast,
but have actually seen one touch down in Derry, NH years ago.
Would you believe it hit a trailer park?
Hmmm...scary stuff.
My prayers to those directly affected
peace,
michel

I be fine ;D

The twisters were east and west of me by about 2-3 hrs. Those are some mean critters. I used to live at Myrtle Beach,SC and would ride Tropical storms and mild hurricanes out......but when they started issuing the tornado warnings.....especially at night....I would freak.  Been close to one once....fortunately during the day where I could see the bugger. Missed my uncles station by about 100yds. I couldnt believe how black it got....and so quick.

Thanks for the concern Bill.....youre alright.  8)

There was some story of a bunch of kids and a few teachers trapped in a skating rink there. From what I heard they used the skate rink as a day care. Anyone got the goods on this?

Where I live (in Arkansas), there was a tornado that came through town and pretty much wiped it out about 10yrs before we moved here. About 9 yrs ago, a twister moved through Ft. Smith and went on through Van Buren, doing quite a bit of damage and killed a few people (don't remember how many exactly) and those 2 towns were about 30 minutes away from where I live. Needless to say, we got some pretty rough weather out of that one. Occasionally, weather ( that tornadoes are known to come from) comes through here and folks get understandably nervous. We have had some pretty destructive "Straight Line winds" that have done some pretty good damage too. It is truly amazing what a tornado can do, the power they can have and yet leave things virtually undisturbed nearby.

I guess the one I heard of was Alabama. I have seen what these monsters do first hand as I took on storm chasing as a insane idiot hobby.

I wonder why they like to hit Trailer Parks ever notice that?

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

I think Aliens make Tornados. That's why they have the same targets  ;D
