which countershaft do i have
« on: May 22, 2016, 02:05:46 AM »
rear Help. Im in the middle of building a 750 cafe racer and I want to use a 180 x 17" rear tyre for no other reason than I think it looks cool. From what I can determine i have a 76 frame and a 78 F2 motor from checking the numbers. I have a 79 750 rear swingarm  and have hashed up some spacers to rough in the 2005 gsxr 600 rear wheel. once im satisfied with the wheel and chain alignment issues im going to make new new swingarm using all the gsxr  rear brakes , axel ,and chain adjuster blocks. Now the problem i have is that with a 10mm offset countershaft sprocket i seem to have relocated my sprocket centerline 99.5mm off  the bikes centerline wich is about 10mm shy of where i need it to be. I know that the 750 came out with 2 different lenght countershafts and my motor should have the longer shaft in it, but not being sure of the motors history i cant discount hte fact that the shaft may have been changed. Can someone tell me how much the countershaft should measure from the seal to the end off the shaft to determine which shaft i have? The shaft has the chain oiler in the end of it, i dont know if that helps determine the vintage of the shaft or not.
