Topic: What is the seat pan made of?

Recovering my CB550K seat and was thinking of weld/tacking a metal tack strip around the bottom to hold material down but wasnt sure if it was plastic or metal. The metal tabs are brittle and don't think I can rely on them to hold seat down

Honda used metal..but some aftermarked is plastic/glassfiber...i use kontakt glue..to hold the cover on..hate to punkt holes in the nice  new cover

Pretty sure all the stock seat pans were steel. Rivets should work whether the pan is metal or plastic. I riveted new gator teeth upholstery strips to the seat pan to hold the new seat cover for my K8 CB750:

LOL! Thanks, I was definitely happy with the results. As for "extra work", I'm having trouble finding time to complete my own projects!

Going to try the tack strip with rivet method this week

Using rivet is a good idea, because it means you could replace the tack strips in the future if necessary.
