Californians joined the group where pot is legal...they understand...
It was picking on the funny typo...of saying pot helps with these bikes.

Might have been many riders solution to recreational enjoyment with their bikes.

It was picking on the funny typo...of saying pot helps with these bikes.

Might have been many riders solution to recreational enjoyment with their bikes.

I thought it was funny how a post said 'what does that have to do w/  the fuel tank..'   ;D ;D LOL  That about had me rolling on the floor LOL  ;D  Priceless lol  ;D  I was trying to imagine the fuel tank somehow being used as a bong and maybe the resins were sealing-up the tank somehow..  ;D

Also the PO of my K7 lined the tank without killing all the rust.. I ended up getting a NOS tank from Wobbly (ex forum member) after it started leaking

There are threads on here w/ many different types of tank liners;I have shops do mine most of the time because of the fumes.I know you want to save your original paint so it makes sense to completely mask-up/tape trouble spots before you begin doing your tank.Have you made any moves toward deciding which liner you'll choose yet ?

after rust removal, Jerry was absolutely correct, the tank wound up have 41 pinholes, some as large as a pin head and mostly along the right and bottom front, but also on the left bottom and front. some areas, as long as as 1-1/2" were tissue paper thin.   i used POR-15 and laid their patching material on the bottom which sealed the bottom.  over the years, i've used Kreem, POR, Caswells and had excellent success with all products.   never tried Redkopte, but heard good about it.   each have their individual purpose, depending on tank condition.   seems POR-15 is my favorite.

since i don't trust other people doing my rust removal, depending on the tank condition, i find total rust removal can take extended periods of time to get rust free.  depending on the severity of rust, i use different approaches.  and when there is granite hard dried gas, i have fund using paint remover to melt that junk right away.   

i probably made a mistake using POR-15.  Depending on ambient temps, POR-15 can be nearly as viscous as water.  i applied it at around 60' temp, but still pretty viscous.after applying POR, there was one leak left on the front RH corner at the seam.  i probably should have used Kreem, because with POR-15, one cannot lay a 2nd coat over 1st coat....  as it was, the entire area around the last pinhole was an area so thin that the hole turned out being the diameter of a dime.  the tank and cowl are shop wall art.

the bike had minor damage from an accident and was clearly parked and never ridden again at 5112 miles on the odo.  i am certain the points did not have a screwdriver put to them from the day the bike left the dealer showroom floor.  it had the original F5 front tire and the rear was probably the 2nd tire, a less than half worn K87.    the North Dakota plate date was 1980.  the poor old muffler had so much internal condensation in it, resulting from rust over the years, the areas where internal baffling was welded to the inner walls was breaking through.  fortunately i had a 2nd muffler that while it had it's "patina," it is definitely a serviceable muffler, so that's what Sam is running now.   performance and handling-wise, the F models ARE impressive bikes compared to ANY of 69-76 "K" models.  and that is going some for me to say that as i like the 1-7414 models.

Have you ever heard of gas-tank.com ? I had the place in Greensburg,PA.(there are other places across the USA who do the same process) do my tank and it's guaranteed for life;they will tig weld-in steel patches also.The left side of the tank(where it sits on the sidestand for extended periods w/ water in there..)seems to rust-out the most.
The only thing though is,their process includes having to re-paint the outside of the tank.. and your tank has very nice paint.

yes !  the tank looks like nos, except for the BIG hole in the right front.  i know it can be repaired, but i don't believe not not at the expense of the original paint...  and, to be honest, we found a replacement tank, my son's ENJOYING the bike and i've lost interest in anything to do with the tank.  and yes, you re CORRECT.  parking the bike on the sidestand took it's toll.

Did you find a replacement tank from member  'geeto' here on the forum?
 I noticed he has a good number of tanks for sale here.

Sorry to here that the muffler/baffles blew-out on your stock Honda 4 into 1 muffler,they can be taken apart and fixed by a competent welder.. Good that you had another one.  :)

 Nice bike, my F1 was my favorite 750 but I sold it so I could keep my Sandcast bike. I did add an extra front brake caliper, drilled the rotors and made a matching rotor fender out of two old ones. I feel like it stopped better with that setup and looked like it came that way.

here's a really fun picture taken up in rural NE Nebraska..........  it was Saturday, May 28th around noon, on a dirt turned MUD road about a 3/4 mile from where i grew up.  FOOLISHLY, i drove on it and realized soon the mistake i had made.  i should have known different, i grew up on the damn things !  Fortunately, there was a slight wind, albeit cool temps, but enough i could drive out with Sam pushing and the layer of corn  the previous Fall harvest season we laid in a less slimy edge of the road.  Literally, about 1.5 minutes after we dorve through, the skies opened and by the time we got through the rest of the mud road, about a half mile, it was POURING.  the 2nd pic is of Sam "taking a shower" in the rain !  both of us laughed our asses off !

Steve, I really appreciate the comparison of performance to the early K's from "just a guy who knows some things about those 1-7414 bikes".  ;) 8)  However you HAVE come highly recommended  ;D

When I have in the past mentioned how well mine performed new vs early K's and smoking a couple friend's 500 Kaw H1's back in the day, let's just say, I was met with serious skepticism.  :D
