My custom aluminum tank is a bit too close to the top triple on my '71 CB750.  I have already shaved down the shoulders a bit and use a recessed allen bolt with matching recessed allen nut to clamp it tight.  But there still isn't enough room.  I had to drill my steering stops and add bolts to keep the triple mounting shoulders from hitting the tank.  Any suggestions?

Moving the tank back is NOT an option.
It took 10 years but she's finally done!

Steering stops (as you've made) are the best option. The next option is to switch to an adjustable offset triple tree. That has other ramifications in terms of altering your steering geometry.

You can probably take a lot more off than you did. Some custom top clamps may have more clearance, but may shorten the front end .
Always assemble the bike and check before painting.

How about lowering the tank just a little, by modifying the rubbers it rests on in the front?

I agree with Frank, you can take more of the tripple tree corners.

But on Red I did the same - added bolts to stops - for F3 tripple on K3 frame.  There are no limits I can feel as far as steering, happy with the solution for 3 000 miles.

Sounds like I need to take a bit more off the triple corners. It's tough maneuvering in driveways and parking lots with the steering limited, so this should help out.
As always, thanks for the input.

New top triple without the pinch in the back. Plenty of bikes don't have the pinch there. That would allow you to have much less material there. No sacrifice in looks or functionality with more clearance.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

I don't like the billet look, prefer to keep it looking more retro.  Any suggestions on retro swappable triples that don't have the pinch in the back?
