Holy crap! The ignition module arrived 6 days after having placed the order, those guys from tytronics sure are fast, hope their product is as good as their shipping times, I'll mount this thing soon and report back.

Rotortiller ,are you saying you can run stock coils with electronic ignition?i thought they used coils with different ohms.?

It's a points replacer, and simply switches 12v off and on to whatever coil is attatched.  The question is its current carrying ability.  That is what determines how low the coil primaries can be in ohms.  But, certainly if it can drive, say, 3ohm coils, it should drive stock 5 ohm coils easily.

Saying it is "electronic" is mostly a convenient sales buzz word used to wow buyers. It is only one part of the ignition system, the trigger.  It won't provide higher spark voltages by its lonesome.  It's the coil choice that can enable higher voltages, if you think that sort of thing provides an actual benefit in an otherwise stock motor.

That's exactly what I said, pretty common practice with many electronic ignitions in this category. No reason to replace a perfectly good working coil pack on a nice running machine. It's simply a points replacement that fires consistently accurate. It's not like a CDI or computer controlled ignition map, it's just a nice little modern device doing basically the same thing a bit better. The Orange unit I have is based upon the Honda coil duty cycle, design aside for me it's enough that it works correctly. I know little about the black single magnet unit since I have not used it but suspect ignition system may use more electrical power with the same coils like other systems have successfully done. I'm happy with mine.

I did a bit of internet searching on the Tytronic units trying to find an output drive (to coils) spec.  I was not successful.
I only found a fitment guide referring to the make and model of bike.  Of course, that implies the stock 5 ohm coils.
Without knowing what driver the units use, or an output drive spec., there may be some risk using it with 3 ohm coils, as the drive current will be higher than with a stock 5 ohm coil.  Might overheat, fail/might not.  Can't tell if the output is short circuit protected, either.  That would help it survive wrong coil attachment.

Would someone who has one in their hands look to see if included documentation has these output driver specs?

It has very limited and crude installation instructions, definitely no design specs or schematics LOL  I would bet if you asked them about coil loading they would be forthcoming.

TT the instructions supplied with my kit are just a printed piece of office paper with some 10 odd badly translated phrases, but it's simple enough to install, I looked around online and I'm pretty sure the tytronics ignition and the one from pete's place are made by the same people, the sender's address was listed to be in shenzhen, and practically all of the electronic components in the world come from there, I wouldn't even be surprised if this was a one or two man operation out of someone's apartment.

Try this  Jore. I took the time to make some notes for that very reason. It is slightly different than yours having two magnets to deal with but should help someone not so skilled as you.  I hear Pete and Charlie got married! ;D

Update on tytronics ignition, I finally got around to starting the bike after installing this thing, even after a few months of hibernation, it started up within the first 3-4 tries, afterwards i would just give it some gas, hit the starter and it started on the first try, when i installed the thing, it's just a matter of hooking up the red wire to the ignition switch and the other 2 wires to the coils, I statically timed the bike, it took like 5 minutes to do so, today after start up and letting the bike get up to temp, I checked it with the strobe light, at around 2-3 K rpms I'm not sure since my tach doesn't work, and both 1-4, and 2-3 where right between the 2 parallel advance marks, I took the idle down but every time I got near the F mark the bike would die, but I think that's a carb issue since #1 exhaust pipe is cold and the 3 others are hot.
All in all, the kit seems to work well.

+1 Dave, I did the timing on my 750 with 20(+) year old Dyna III ignition on Saturday. I just set the throttle at 2500 RPM, aligned the full advance marks on the advancer with the mark on the engine, tightened the screws and that was it, it purred like a kitten, so I put the timing light away for the next bike I install an electronic ignition on. Set and forget. ;D

Terry, you ol' flamethrower, have a look at this. It's called plasma ignition? For an explanation see: and following vids. Talking about welding. ;)

Nice! Check this out Delta, someone's gone and added capacitors to spark plugs for some of that plasma sparking! I put a set of these in my Harley Sportster last year, and I'm sure I can hear them buzzing away, burning all that fuel/air mix in those big combustion chambers, even over my loud Bassani exhaust! Capacitors are cool! ;D

Jore if you have a kill switch and want it to work hook the black (red in my case) wire up to the black/white coil power wire with a "Y" splitter.

My bike starts instantly hot or cold, certainly better than using points (with and without the old ignition box). While the engine output is the same it definitely operates smoother. Like the guys stated set the full advance marks and button it up. The advance unit arms as theory goes may by nature be resting on a thicker wall surface and not fully returning? Lets hope the unit proves durable over the years.

Then my timing is spot on, I rewired my back completely, so The red wire from the module goes yo the switch distribution block

One positive side effect of the new ignition is that kickstarting is a breeze, first kick and she roars, with the points you could break your leg trying to kick it and it would start once every 30 tries if you were lucky

Even before I went electronic mine would start on first kick if it had only been setting a day or 2 and maybe another kick or 2 if it sat longer than a week but 30 kicks? Geez my kids newly acquired 75 cb400f didn't take that many kicks to fire it up even after it had sat for 10 years ...... we did clean the carbs beforehand though. :)

My local MC shop is owned by a former Honda dealer mechanic in the 70s.  He relayed a story about competition within the old Honda shop, about starting CB750s and other bikes, right after the tune up, while still on the lift using hand/arm motion.  The goal was always on the first kick starter cycle.  Which he said was mostly routine.  Of course, there was ridicule for whoever failed the "test".  The bikes all had standard points ignition setups.

Some fun on your day job.
