Tach refurb problem
« on: June 22, 2016, 08:56:48 AM »
Had to take my tach apart due to a dirty lens.  Bought replacement rings from cb750guages.  The rings were shipped in a soft padded envelope and are now out of round.  Am also having trouble getting the 2 halves to match up.  The inner light green painted cup doesn't seat so the lip is down tight on the lip of the outer cup.  So with that problem and the out of round rings,I can't even begin to recrimp the rings on the backside.  The rings are really strong, much more so than the originals that I pried off.
Any proven methods of holding the mess together while I try to crimp?  Any good way of crimping?  This refurb is a job I have done in the past.  I did not expect to encounter such problems.

Check out this vid. Marcel (Lecram) is a member here and has posted tons of stuff about rebuilding gauges.

Hi.
I recently had a similar experience with my K6 tachometer. I bought new glass , and trim ring. But for the life of me and others we could not recrimp the ring and put the two halfs together. So I sent the gauge and the parts Purchased to Marcel in the Neitherlands. It took a few weeks but Marcel did an excellent job including clean, inspect, lube paint the needle, put new green face and reassemble. Cost less then 200 including shipping both ways. Looks brand new. I wish I would have just sent him both gauges and let him do it all
