New Front End Stuttering
« on: July 17, 2016, 06:21:08 PM »
I just put new front tubes on a recently purchased 1973 CB750.  I got the fork tubes from Cycle X.  They came with new springs and spacers for pre-loading.

This front end is realtively simple in design and not hard to work on.  However, after I got every thing together I get a stutter ( or shudder) when I engage the front brake and push down on the front forks.  The front tire literally shimmy's from side to side.... not a lot but certainly noticable.

Any idea what I did wrong?  It should be noted that the front brake is not completely bled at this time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Give your new fork tubes a light wipe down with automatic transmission fluid or some other light oil. I think your new seals against new tubes are showing friction. See if this helps. We wipe down the chrome struts on aircraft for the same reason.

Bleed the brake line. Sounds like the pad is hanging up on the rotor. Any pics of how it looks with the new tubes?
