Which direction for fork seals?
« on: July 25, 2016, 02:33:19 PM »
Reassembling my front forks, can't remember which direction the fork seal faces. One side Is double lipped, the other flat. I'm assuming the flat side goes "down" toward the lower fork assembly but just wanted to check. Below is a picture of the double lipped side, I'm guessing this double lipped side faces "up".

The flat side with the numbers goes up, and the double lipped side goes down.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

OEM seals? If so, like Stevo said text/writing goes up.

OEM or aftermarket, the text/numbers go up. I just got some aftermarket fork seals, and they are double-lipped on both sides! I've never seen seals like this before! The instructions say the text goes up, but it's very small as it's on the edge of the thin outer lip.

Open end with the spring showing goes down facing the inside of the fork. Normally a seal will be set with the open end showing the spring toward the liquid it is sealing in, think shift seal, k/start seal, crank seal, etc.

Thanks guys! Got the seals in with letters/numbers "up" and everything else in and buttoned up without a hitch!

Sorry I messed up. My wording was supposed to be the side you're holding up goes in first.
