Google Maps
« on: May 31, 2005, 09:59:09 AM »
Check out the new Google maps feature.  It's still in Beta testing, but already better than Mapquest or yahoo.  It's a pre-loaded map of the entire globe, so you can click and drag it in any direction without waiting for it to re-load a new map.  But the coolest part is in the upper right corner of the page.  If you click "Satellite", it will show you the exact satellite photo of the map you are viewing, and you can drag and zoom the photo the same as the map.

Here's a picture of my house.  It's the little grey one in the middle with the trees.  ;)

I noticed that, Steve.  I tried to look up London, but apparently they only have close-up views of U.S. cities.

You want bendy roads?  Here's where I'll be riding as soon as the weather warms up a bit.  :P

Yup, sadly there's still almost nothing of europe. But the New York maps are nice (liberty islands, boats, traffic on brooklyn bridge). Check out washington and the white house- the rooftops are blanked out for security reasons!

Cheers, Remi

This is Forks of the Credit road here in Ontario (North West of Toronto).  One of the favourite riding areas / hang outs for the weekends.  More bikes than cars.   I hilited the road in red as you really can't see it for all the trees.  Lots of elevation changes and more twisties than it looks on the map.

Great site,I can see this taking away a lot of traffic from Mapquest. Now just tell me how I save the picture? I tried right clicking to save and nothing happens, tried saving to disc and it doesn`t save the area I wanted. Finally got fed up and went up myself this afternoon and took my own pics.

Well Crap!  Who needs a satellite picture when you have your own plane?  Have you figured out how to make your Honda Fly, yet?

If you want to save a picture you can't right click on, you need a screen capture program.  I'm using one called 5-clicks.  You can download it for free here.  http://www.download.com/5-Clicks/3000-2192_4-10160883.html?tag=lst-0-1

You don't need any fancy software - see the PrtScn button on your keyboard (to the right of the F12 key).  Print Screen.  A carry over from green screens.

Hit that key.  Your entire screen is copied to the clipboard.  Open Paint (or any program) and Paste (CTRL-V).  Crop out what you want and save.

Gordon, riding my Honda is the closest thing to flying when I`m stuck on the ground.
Just wait 2 more years and we`ll all be able to fly in a Honda ,jet turbine powered  ;D
