Anyone wear glasses AND a full face helmet? Suggestions?
« on: November 26, 2006, 12:02:31 PM »
Hey All

I'd like to get a full coverage helmet, but haven't had
much luck finding anything in local bike shops for glasses wearers.
I know they make flip-up full coverage helmets for us four-eyed types,
do any of you own such a helmet? Any you like or dislike?

Not quite sure what helmet you mean but I wear a regular Shoei full-face helmet with glasses -no problems. Have always worn glasses with full-face helmets.....

I use the Shoei TZ-R, it's not a modular but the glasses fit nicely in the cheek pads. The only problem I have is my damned glasses fog up so badly I end up ridding without them in the winter.

Any full face helmet can be worn with glasses...provided your spec's aint something out of willy wonka and the chocolate factory or an elton john escapee...

I wear an AGV full face with mine...no issues. There is a tendancy for them to fog in Cold weather areas but I don't live anywhere near there ;D

Now that being said....its alot easier to get them on and off with a flip up lid.

There are numerous flip lids on the market. The nolan is one of my favorites.

Right! Maybe just another coat of Dipity Doo and some
goggles is all I really need!

Anyway...my glasses, like everything in my life, are vintage plastic poindexters with
curved "cable" ear pieces. Almost impossible to get them on after the helmet is on, and
a bit too wide for most one piece full coverage helmets. Should I just get corrective
laser surgery? Might be cheaper than some helmets I've seen.

I wear an HJC CL-14.  My glasses are really thin, though, so they never really pose a problem.  My shield will fog up on cold days, but not my glasses.

When I bought my modular helmet it was because I had glasses with cable side pieces. There was no way to put a full helmet on over them or to put them on once the helmet was on.They were great glasses so I bought a helmet that I could use with them...a Nolan100. Last year I had to get new glasses and couldn't find any I liked with cable side pieces so I got some spiffy frames that have magnets on them to attach sunglasses...very slick. These new glasses can easily be put on once the helmet is on. My point? I like the Nolan a lot. It's very convenient when buying gas or simply talking to someone but, my next helmet will probably be a full non-modular. If you need a modular because of your glasses then the Nolan100 is a good deal at a little over $200.

Ha, took me a couple of rides after getting a full-face (Bell Sprint) to get the new routine down as  you described. First couple of times I'd start to lift the helmet off with the glasses still on  ::). Don't even think about it now. I thought about a modular, but figured a non-modular might have an edge in terms of overall strength. Not at all sure that is sound reasoning, but what the heck.

I have no problems with my full face and glasses. Granted, my glasses are thin and small.

Maybe get something other than the poindexters? Just because your bike is vintage doesn't mean your glasses have to be. :)

I wear sunglasses 95% of the time I ride, I wear an Arai Astral, and they don't fog when I am moving.   They are the straight type bows since I have to put them on after I put my helmet on.  It ends up adding five minutes to each trip on the bike; Jacket on, earplugs in, helmet on, buckle hemet, glasses on, gloves on, start bike.  It takes even longer when it is below 50.  A pain in the a@@ sometimes, but I won't leave home without ANY of it.  Too much to lose, in my mind, well not in my mind, you know......

"Funny, my friends wife said I looked like an astronaut the first time she saw me riding."
My wife thinks sportbike riders look like chipmunks.  So much for looking macho...

I actually have 3 pairs of glasses, one being prescription sunglasses.  One is the same maker my father wore going back to the '40s, but they are easy to slide on.  I don't get modular helmets because I keep hearing about how noisy they are. I hate ear plugs.  Hate 'em.

I wasn't aware of the noise issue on modulars. One the positive side benefits of my Bell full-face is it's nice and quiet. My bike never sounded better. ;D

I had a BMW System 1 that was the best helmet I ever had.  When I literally wore it flat out, I got a System II. The faster I went, the louder the roar got. I mean ROAR. Took it back and traded for my first Arai.  I just can't argue with success.
BTW- if wind noise bugs folks with Davidas; cut oval pieces of sheepskin and use double sided tape to put them in where your ears go.  Big help.

The only thing I hate is having to take my glasses off before pulling the helmet on and off. But for extra safety I guess it is worth it.
