Topic: Threads busted in rear hub assembly. Fixable?

Hey guys...

So, my hub assembly popped out of place when I was riding the other day. Took it apart and put it back together, but it popped out again.
Found out that the threads inside the hub, to keep the whole assembly togheter, was shot.

Question is, is this fixable? Ive noticed that the thread-metal is alu, so its quite soft.
Is there any way to fix the threads in there? Ive heard that this is a problem on the old CBs...
And since there is a small amount of parts out there, I cant find a new wheel either....

Threads can be fixed by using a tap of the same pitch - metric in this case - using it like a comb you can clean up the damaged part.

Saved my bacon few times, I belive it is 1.5mm pitch, tap M10x1.5 would work on it.

You said you put it back together, did the threads feel like they were engaged somewhat normally? If so, reassemble with red Loctite. Red has a stronger bond than blue Loctite, considered semi-permanent. But realistically, if you replace the bearings with sealed bearings, you probably won't have a need to reassemble in your lifetime.

Yup, I know, and I was probably a little unclear on the problem... Its the retainer-threads on the inside of the hub!

The threads in the hub do not look that bad.  I think you need to do some work with a tap like 70CB750 said.  Use any metric tap with a 1.5 pitch and really sharpen what you have in the hub.  You also need to clean those threads out.  You can use an L shaped pick and some WD40 to clean any gunk out of there.  Do Not Use Red Loctite on those threads.  If you have to use any loctite, use blue.  I'm not sure what bike you have but you should probably replace the bearing retainer.  Don't re-use the old one that has been punched and drilled.  Get a nice clean new one from Honda.
