Topic: Camchain mod

 I have a KA Performance slipper camchain tensioner to replace the old deteriorating rubber wheel. This thing is built for hardcore racing and is very heavy-duty. The tunnel in the head must be widened to fit this piece and it will never wear out. I've just put the head back on and the chain is very tight. The tensioner has almost no give. It may free up once it's broken in. It may be caught up on the new gasket. Is this going to be alright? What do you think?

The only mod I had to perform with that tensioner was to shorten the sleeve that slips over the bottom tensioner pin. I did not modify the the tunnel nor was it recommended in the instructions. That brings me to an important point...did you receive any instructions with the unit??? I have dealt with 4 of these units and mine was the only one supplied with any type of instructions. You are supposed to remove the spring in the tensioner block and apply light tension to the plunger rod with a screwdriver or similar tool. I've found it takes more than "light" pressure to get rid of cam chain noise.

I agree with MRieck, though I've installed only two of these.Only mod necessary in those two motors was to shorten that sleeve.

Ok, I'll come clean.... It's the same part as used on a 750 but my bike is really a 350twin. This part was sent straight to the shop and they installed it  almost two years ago. I don't have any instructions. I can't adjust it with a screwdriver. It's spring or nothin. The bike has been run on the previous rebuild for about 1000 miles and the chain seemed fine...... I guess i need to know if I need to worry about this or just run it and see how it sets in?

I have just been talking to the guy that's building our 836 motor.
He has a lot of experience with 350 motors, although not on him, he knows people that have broken the the top cam wheel bolts when torquing them down, are there any better bolts available.
CBGBs, Although we have one, I can't comment on the tensioner as I am not doing the build, go with what Mike says.

Edit. Have just looked at the tensioners, very much alike but not the same.

Yes...the tensioner is different for the twin. I'd make sure you have the right unit.

Just curious. I was thinking off changing the tensions on my race bikes. Were can these slipper camchain tensioner be purchased.  I searched the for and googled it but no luck.

I got the part from KA Performance and it should be the right one. I thought that they were the same part but perhaps I'm wrong. I know he said the chain was from a 750. The bike ran previously with the part in. What do  you think I should do? I have no info on the part.

How M3 tensioner works? I sow the picture, but can not say for sure, does it have roller or slider... Can it be made in average machine shop ?

Go check out the pics on the M3 website and find out which unit you have. I've seen bikes run with all sorts of stuff not right i.e. bent valves, broken rings

I have the CB350 piece. I checked the photos. I don't believe my engine had any mechanical problems when I ran it with the part. The piston failed due to an improper air/fuel ratio. I don't think the spring would really even have enough force to adjust the tension as it is now. I'll just have to run it a bit and check it again. The engine will go back in in a few weeks.
