"71 K1 paint
« on: September 06, 2016, 03:22:45 PM »
Just had my "71 K1 tin painted. My painter took great pains to duplicate Candy Ruby Red. I,m liken the look even tough not exact. This is not a 99 point restoration. Thoughts from the wise SOHC 4 community please. The tank is not yet painted subject to my approval of the color.

Looks like a nice quality job. Are you going with the stock tank stripes. Those will be his test to get them set correctly.

Agree...that cover looks very nice. If you have a quality painter have him paint the tank stripes and clear over the whole thing. He has to be detailed to do it right. Hopefully your tank has the OEM stripes on so he can measure and note the correct placement on the tank.

When I got the bike, the tank was rattle-can black. For placement of the stripes, I pulled a photo of a "71 K7 from the internet and gave mim an 8X10 to work from. This same guy did my '77 tank. Those decals were a lot tougher to apply and he did a great job.

Thanks. Hope to finish the project while we still have some good riding weather here in Central Oregon.
