My 1976 CB750F Project

I picked up a "barn find" CB750F that had been sitting for 20+ years and recently started the process of a frame off restoration. My intention is to take it slowly and rebuild the bike bit by bit until I complete a stock rebuild.

I starting this thread to document the process of restoring this bike as well as to capture decisions and issues, etc.

Attached is the picture from the original eBay listing.

Great starting point. Many parts available from Honda, more not.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Here are some pictures - my new seat just came, replacing the awful seat that came with the bike and a picture of the tear down so far which is mostly everything save the engine, rear brakes and suspension.

My next challenge is engine removal. I'd like to find or fab a stand so I could just slide the engine out of the bike onto it, but I'm not sure it's going to be possible to make this a one-man job.  ;)

I did try searching the forums for engine stand/removal tips, but the search function doesn't appear to be working.

It sucks that the search function doesn't work, so I just search through google and put honda cb sohc forum at the end of what I'm searching for and I can find it. Here is a link to a post about making a engine stand. It may not be what your looking for tho.

When I took out my CB900 motor I removed the oil pan and all mounting bolts, then placed a piece of wood between a car jack and the motor. I then jacked the motor up, with the valve cover off for more clearance and rolled the jack to the left. That made it easier for a neighbor to help me lift the motor and place it on a rolling dollie that I could easily move around the garage. if you can get someone to help you for 30 seconds, you're golden.

i sent you a PM regarding the seat and sissy bar, I'm hoping it might fit a 550. Does anyone have information on this?

2 people make it WAY easier. Rotate it slightly forward to clear the rear mounts, lift up slightly and bring it out the right side. You can use one of the rear mount bolts or a large screw driver etc as a handle for the rear into the mount holes on the case. Wrap your exhaust studs with tape etc to protect the threads and the frame down tube.

C hook on an engine hoist. Lots of folks fab one up from metal or wood.
