tailight flashes with turn signals??
« on: September 17, 2016, 11:56:42 AM »
New member here, been lurking and gaining knowledge from the site for a week now, glad to be a part of the forum!  the bike im working on is as follows

1978 CB750K K8 brat project

bike was bone stock and all lights worked fine when i started the project, replaced the front signals with mini stalk incandecent single filament bulbs (23 watt) they now work fine...my issue is with my led tailight, when i hook it up it, the running portion blinks when the signals are on..fwiw it still does this when the original incandecent tailight is hooked up..any thoughts?? thanks in advance guys, and thanks for having me on here :)

Simple guess; Someone got the wires switched around.

Try cleaning the ground point in the tail light assembly. Or run a temporary supplemental ground wire to see if that resolves the problem.  I'm thinking dirty or poor grounding here.

traced all the wires best i could using a schematic i found in google image, also traced the ground with no luck..only thing that works is when i temporarily supply the running light portion of the tail light with an alternative, steady 12v source (from the 7 amp headlight fuse block) now the tail light works as it should which suggests the stock 12v supply to the tail light is wonky somehow even though the stock tail light work just fine a week ago lol...gotta love old bikes!

Your tail light should have 2 wires from it: tail light power, brake light, and a ground. The BRAKE side connects to the GREEN/YELLOW striped wire from the front and rear brake switch. The TAIL connects to switched power. That can be BROWN, BROWN/WHITE or solid BLACK. The turn signals connect only to BLUE or ORANGE. Unless your LED fixture has integrated turns indicators in it, you've apparently crossed up the TURN and TAIL circuits somewhere.
