Topic: Some questions about rear wheel (brakes and spacer)

When I Bought my bike it came with a 16" wheel with post 78 hub. The bike is a cb 550 four. I didn´t like to much the idea of having a rear wheel so I bought a cb 500 four 18" pre 78 which it came with the firts hub. so my questions:

1-I would like to mount a metzeler 4.00 18 lasertec. do you recommend me this tyre? I have a 3.25 lasertec in the front wheel and is pretty good. Can somebody post any picture with this tyre mounted, I would like to see how it looks.

2-I need the spacer (also called collar) for separate the drum from the arm. I have seen lots of those in ebay, but the price is just stupid 23$ plus shipping for a piece of metal. Can I make my own spacer? can i adapt this spacer for another bike?

3- I think that the rear brake shoes that I have in my post 78 hub it won´t fit in the pre 78. Is this true? I must buy another brake shoes?

The tire will fit perfectly well, in fact, is probably very close to stock dimension.

The collar for the wheel/hub you can make. In fact, with the mix-match hub you are using, you probably need to make a slightly custom size collar anyway.

I can't tell you anything about the brake shoes. You'll have to fit up the brake plate and test it. Do you have any idea what year/model your rear hub is from actually? If you need a stock 550 hub, I may have one I'd e happy to gather up and send over to you.

I don't think the brake shoes changed - I have both types with exactly the same brake shoes in them. You can use the spacer you have and just add two washers - I used a spare chain adjuster to make the two washers, but later jagged the correct spacer.

Could you post some other pictures of your bike with the lasertect with more perspective? im traying to wonder which one it will be look better a lasertec or a 3.50?

Sorry that one was almost the same, I just managed to find this one..
I now have a pirelli sportsdemon that is one size smaller fitted - everyone kept advising me that it would be better as it's the correct size, but I actually liked the handling better with the wider lazertec - superb grip but wears out quick(3000m)

Your second pic is a 77/78 750 k hub, and yes, shoes are wider than in a 500.

his second pic is of the brake backing plate not the hub, looks just like mine except the actuation lever looks different?
Mine came in a 16" henry abe mag wheel and did indeed have wider shoes but I had to get narrower standard 500/550 shoes to get it to fit in the 77/78 hub in my pics, John

I asked this question at teh bottom of another old topic, but got no response.

It seems closer to the topic discussed her, so maybe one of you guys can help me.

I have lost the collar for the rear wheel - No 9 on the CMS diagram - on my 750K2 - UK model (Frame No: 2086807).

I was thinking to get one made up locally as this seems an easier and cheaper option than sourcing one online.

Can anyone confirm the dimensions for me? I have measured it as 20x34x13 on the bike, but I have read that the collar sits proud of the bearing retainer, so my height may be wrong.

Help please.
