Half way through smoothing off that cover by hand I regretted the decision  ;)
The rest of the project so far............

 I once removed a set of short triple springs with huge spacers under them and aluminum retainers. I thought I had found something cool until I noticed the keepers almost pulled through the retainers. I then scrapped it all.
