What's done-  Wheel and neck bearings, Rear wheel, cush drive clean, rear and front sprocket, rear strut, brake, new chain and adjustment, axle straight and tight. headlight bucket wiring cleaned greased and plugged in. The wiring all works. Woo Hoo! The flashers are very fast. I like that to a certain point, I feel like people notice it.

I need to find the headlight screws and bushings and left/right adjuster. (where did that go?) then install the petcock, fuel line, and gas cap. We're getting close to a ride. pics soon.

Headlight on and closed up, fender on, the same custom chain guard, I bit the bullet and ordered a set of repro 4-1's from DSS so now I'll be able to compare them to the ones from mach IV motors ( I think they were the same as Yamiya) that are on my Sandcast. Sidecover emblems, grommets, petcock and fuel line left to go.
I have someone interested in a few bikes, I may not get to finish it.

The pipes have shipped, I'll post package opening and inspection photos and show the interior high heat stainless painting and curing procedure I used before. Then installation on the K1.

Interested in seeing the pipes. You'll have to change the bikes name, Don.
River Rat doesn't sound like a bike with brand spankin new pipes!

This time, I'll try to not pour stainless paint on my garage floor and shoes! I'll work in the same area as before so the silver paint won't be everywhere. lol.

The pipes are here, the box looks like mach IV's box except Mach IV was foamed, this was newspaper and cardboard. There are Yamiya directions inside so they are the same as Yamiya's.  No damage the first one out of the box was a #2 pipe, the second one out of the box is a #2, the third one #3, the fourth one #4. Fudge except I didn't say fudge.

I've been wishing for a #2 but this wasn't what I had in mind. I can buy a #1 for $400 plus shipping from japan.
 Have I hit the jackpot?

So is this where they send off a #1 to you for free and they pay for return shipping of the extra #2?

Let's hope they say that OR, they send you a new #1 on their dime and you keep the extra #2.

They will have another one screwed up somewhere I bet...

They will have to make it right, it is their error, not yours.
But, that may be American logic.  I would imagine they are going to stand behind it. Would it be losing face to a Japanese company to do otherwise.  That concept is still very much alive in Japan was my experience on the project I worked on that was partnered with a Japanese company bringing a solution to market there.

They actually came from DSS in Pennsylvania which gets them from the main warehouse in England, but came from Yamiya in Japan before that and I think they are made in Indonesia with original tooling. David was at my booth at the Davenport Swap Meet last year, he got away before I got to talk to him. I have no doubt they will make it right, but I'd love to keep that extra #2 even if I pay something for it (reduced price of course) lol.

That supports my theory that they are all made at the same place. 300's anyway. DSS had some 341's a while back. Not sure about those.

Why do you think that?

When they first came out at Yamiya after Honda stopped selling them, I read a story how Yamiya went to the company that made them for Honda and they still had the original tooling. I think they made a trial run from time to time to gauge interest and eventually took it to Indonesia where labor is cheaper and began making them there. I think they are still made in batches because everyone runs out from time to time. I know DSS would order 10 sets and maybe get 2 for a long time.

At first they charged more for no number pipes, then realized they have less of a problem with copyrights when there is no writing on them. I don't think they make paragraph pipes now.

Interesting, hadn't heard that story.

I bought re-pop pipes for my Z1 a couple years ago and read the same story - pipes were made from original tooling.

 I didn't know Z1 was selling pipes.
This morning I called a very nice phone rep in England, I explained the problem of no #1 and 2 #2's and offered to buy the extra pipe if the price was right, he called David, David asked for pictures, I sent pictures, They forwarded said pictures to their supplier, I assume in Japan, by then England was closed and I'm betting Japan was already done for the day before I started the phone call anyway. So by now someone in Japan will be looking at the pictures saying something like (@#$%) so that's where the stray #2 went or I wonder which box has 2 #1's in it.
Meanwhile I'm thinking I might begin coating the insides of a 2 and the 3 and 4 but what if ?? Tomorrow will do.

I got the last set in the US and there are two in England.

DSS says a #1 pipe will be sent direct from Japan. I guess that frees me up to install the right side. He said they may request the return of the spare #2. They didn't address my request to purchase it.

The Yamiya #1 arrived today woohoo, one week approx. delivery. Now to coat them on the inside with the Eastwoods Stainless paint. The Honda Gods willing and the creek don't rise the River Rat will fire up this weekend.

#1 arrived, it has a small scrape in an area not easy to see, they didn't ask for the spare #2. I painted the 5 pipes inside with the eastwoods in the pipe paint like I did the ones in my I've been K0'd thread. I baked the paint with a heat gun and one pipe rolled off the lift me. I almost caught it, got a nasty burn on my hand and still dropped the pipe. Nothing serious but a few small blisters.

She's together and runs, I still need the rubber bumpers for the side and center stands. Alas the #1 carb leaks through as does the freshly redone petcock. No ride today. @#$%   &* by golly.

The repro 4-4's come with these nipples to install in between the muffler connectors. I'm thinking many guys don't get them lined up correctly and these help with that.
