Has the VFR800 Rotor/Stator/Reg/Rect Documentation Dissapeared?
« on: December 20, 2016, 01:10:01 am »
I'm digging around for the doco to build a permenant magnet upgrade to the field excited altenator.
First up I'll need to find some VFR bits that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Any pointers?

The ones I've seen use early 2000's R6 yamaha parts, they are supposed to be more reliable. I'm away at the moment so try sending forum member MessnerMoto a PM, I think he knows which parts to use, you still have to make up spacers/ sleeves to make it all fit... ;)

If You can't fix it with a hammer, You've got an electrical problem.

Actually it looks simple but it is not. Ignore the cover modification I've done. Thats not necessary step...

You need to make an adapter that goes over original sprocket. And thats not easy. Inside diameter of that adapter needs to have interference fit over the sprocket. But basically you first make that adapter close to final measurements.  Than you take it to heat treatment because it will not last without it. Then you grind inside of it to final measurement. Than you press fit it on sprocket. Then you grind outside diameter to final measurement.  Like I sad it looks simple but it is not....

The second thing is that conus adapter. Again make it close to final measurement. Heat treating... Final grinding. And This conus is more complicated than first step.

And of corse all of this was done by professional machine shop. I just do measuring and design ;) Cover involved some simple CNC but like I sad it is not necessary it is just for the looks

those pics of the r6 parts have me wondering......what are the chances that r6 stuff fits the cb650 crank end without that spacer since that taper is larger than 550??

I really want to beef up the charging system on my 650 engine build to be able to run fuel injection.....

The taper on the 650 shaft is different from the 550.  Paulages build of one of his hybrid 650-550 motors addresses this.  He actually had a machinist change the taper on the crank. A more complex machining process requiring the motor to be fully disassembled, of course.

I doubt you are going to be lucky enough to find direct swap parts such as you hope.

When I bought parts for conversion I was thinking it is bolt on ;) Luck in this conversion is that conus is of same angle on cb750 crankshaft and r6 crankshaft...  I did it manly because I will run one lithium battery

RAF the reason I had asked is because I knew the taper is different on the 650.... it's larger than the 550 taper and with the tapered spacer that Messner posted appears that MAYBE it would equal the difference between 550 and 650 crank taper.

Actually, messner saying the r6 parts fit the 750 crank makes me believe even more so that they'd fit 650, as I believe the 650 and 750 taper are the same are they not?

I am not saying it is direct fit. I am just saying angle of taper/conus is the same. You still need adapter there

I am not familiar with term conus, I recognize you are referring to the cone shaped sleeve when you refer to conus.  Where did you obtain the conus?  Was this made or measured and commissioned to be made by a machinist?
Thanks for your clarification.

cone shaped was made by a machinist. I did the measurements
