Rake on 82' CB750
« on: January 10, 2017, 03:06:10 PM »
Hey guys, I'm starting out a build project and am looking into stretching the rake on my 82' 750. An additional 8-10 degrees if possible. I want to run a 21" wheel up front.

VBled1's build was a huge inspiration and kinda stuck this idea in my head (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,101886.0.html).

Before it gets asked, this will strictly be a local/show bike, I have two others that I do the majority of my riding on. Furthest this would see from my driveway is >40 miles.

Short and sweet:
Are there any raked tree kits you know of that would fit my neck?
Would it be do-able to just trim out a V cut (leave bottom section attached) behind the neck and pull the neck back, reweld with an adjusted rake?
Any options without sending it to a shop where I'm pretty sure they'd have to add a gooseneck to get the pitch.

I don't plan on riding this bike aggressively, but obviously, frame failure isn't something I want to gamble with. Any advice is really appreciated!

build it the way YOU want, and learn to ride it afterwords. you will get use to it, and will be glad you followed through with your plan  ;D you can pie cut up on top, and pull the stem back, and weld, or you can pie cut up from the bottom, add a wedge on both sides, and weld. i run 45ยบ rake plus

Haha, definitely man. I love the look of the rake VBled1 did and just fell in love over night. I had set out on doing a sort of hardtail-cafe build (basically stock tank with clubmans) but the stretched look just won me over.

If I build up a jig to keep the head in line while I stretch back (or forward), should I box in the entire neck afterwards to get more strength? Or do you think if I tac'd the placement and had a metalfab shop put down some solid tig lines it would be fine? I'm still pretty novice on a MIG so I'm not sure if I should be doing structural welds yet.

Only issue I'm concerned about is my front rails attach almost on top of my neck:

I would probably have to cut them off, adjust rake then reattach?

**Sorry ignore that last question, I looked closer at what Turbod did, makes sense now.

Without touching the frame, you can have a custom triple tree made with a different offset on the bottom bridge than on the upper one.
