Forgot to post this. My front fender, while fine on the outside, was getting pretty corroded underneath.. After a spell in the electrolysis tank, I cleaned it up, treated the rust with Ospho and coated it with this dark silver. I think it won't be too noticeable. I had to do something with it or it would be new fender time. As it is, I need two new calipers.

Front wheel went much easier than the back wheel. I guess because the spokes are longer and the rim is a little less stiff. On the rear there is a deformation at the weld point the I don't think can be worked out. The front seems better all around.
Discovered I can't start torquing because my torque kit does not have the 5.6mm crows foot. Ordering one now.
On to carbs while I wait for stuff.

I installed rear sets on my first build, so I really didn't examine the factory foot pegs.  I want to run pegs in the factory mid controls and peg location on my chopper build, but the difference in length on the peg mounts is going to have to be dealt with.

I had a pretty mixed results work session on the bike this weekend. I did some application of the POR15 clear two part urethane on the polished parts.
The problem is that the urethane kicked off too quickly and the application doesn't look too great on some of the parts, I don't even want to post pictures yet.
There is a discrepancy on the instructions.
The data sheet states to mix the parts at 3 to 1, which I followed.
The can states the mix ratio as 4 to 1, which would have slowed it down.
I chose 3 to 1 fearing that it would not set up and create a big mess.
So now I'll wait until it gets pretty hard and wet sand the imperfections out and apply a top coat, mixed 4 to 1. Maybe our higher humidity here contributed to the problem since humidity contributes to  the hardening.
Live and learn.
If I can't clean up some of the problem areas I'll need to figure out how to remove the coating and start over.

Thanks for the 'tip', I never realized this about the urethane. It explains troubles I have had with the paint here, where it's like a desert most of the time in the summer.

I'm going to try and mix a batch of clear urethane again and thin it with Zylene, the directions say about 10%. I'll test it on something and report results. I have to believe it works, POR 15 is a good company. The POR15 black works great.
In the case of the black, I buy small cans and try to use them up quickly. Once a can is opened the clock is ticking.
I think I'm dealing with our higher humidity here, which kicks it off.
In all cases I am trying to slow down the effects of our marine environment by protecting as much as I can. I am even going to coat the under side of the nos rear fender to prevent what happened to the front fender.
My neighbor across the street has a fairly new Harley Davidson which he rides a lot, his forks and many other parts are corroding after just a year or two. Hard to stop the effects.

Mixed up some fresh Simple Green 50% in the ultrasonic. Put the stripped down carbs  in for about 20 minutes. Made pretty quick work out of it.

Finally dropped the frame, swing arm and center stand off for media blast. Also getting the steering stops and the inner rear fender holder weld repaired.
Waiting on carb kits to assemble carbs.  Still lots to do, I have to take it one system at a time. Reminds me (on a small scale of course) of how we had to approach re-assembling a nuclear submarine engine room during overhaul. If you spent too much time thinking about all of it you went nuts.

I'm the hold up now, lots of work to get to.
On another item, has anyone seen a spark advancer like this? It does not have any markings like what I see in other pictures.

Just read it, mine is AD125, whatever that is.
Have to research this some more.
Got my frame back with repaired inner fender tabs and steering stops. Will post photos later.

Info from Scottly on that advancer thead:

Honda used two different suppliers for the advancers. One was TEC, and the other was Denso. The symbol near the 2-3 timing marks on your unit is Denso. My K1 has a similar part.

Ok, great, thank you, I was afraid it was a non-Honda replacement by the PO for some reason, I was about to order a new one.
This forum is such a great resource.

By the way, I found a simple way to install new break shoes on the backing plate with a tool most of us have laying around, I will post a picture later, it works great and solves a problem.

This is how I spread my rear brake shoes to get them over the cam. Pretty stone axe simple but worked great, no drama.

Frame with POR15 and their chassis black top coat. Went on pretty easy, used way less paint than I thought it would.
I did the whole thing using their cleaner/degreaser, the metal prep and then the paint.

POR15 black by itself is not UV stable so you have to spray on one of their Top Coat products. The POR15 is brushed on and is very much self leveling. For top coat I used their "chassis black".
This product was featured on Jay Leno's Garage and I liked it. I also had the mechanic shop in my last job use it to preserve heaven equipment trailers and the like. It's pretty tough stuff if you don't mind the process.
When I was spraying I had lots of plastic down and over and wet everything else down to prevent overspray issues. It worked, I think.
I got my supplies at the local auto refinishing dealer.

Got my carbs put together, still need washers and cotter pins for choke linkage. I also still need
108 jets. Things are going well.

This time of year our sunsets are interrupted by the island of Lanai unless we go up to Lahaina. Bummer
I'm on the south side. Still, not too bad after all day bent over the carbs.

Still a great photot.  I'll never forget my first sunset on Hawaii, it appeared like the sun was sinking in the Pacific.
