Exactly Don.
Longer Test ride went well. Valves and pistons are seating in and she is running very well. Jetting is very close as per butt dyno. Plugs indicate a tad lean. Air mixture screws are 2 turns out. So I’ll play with those a bit. I’m using stock size CB550 sprockets. She is at 2700rpm at 70mph in 5th gear.

Good to know, I'll check out what speed I'm going at 2700rpm. I do have altered sprockets, forgot what exactly.

Got an oil leak from the shift shaft seal. Replacement ordered. Didn’t leak at all until test ride #2.

Good , shorter ride today. Seals are all good. Jetting is dialed in from my butts opinion. She freaking rips after 4500 rpms!!!! Top end power is pretty incredible for an old gal. The 77/78 Cb 750 carbs are great. Awesome throttle response. Went up one pilot size and one main jet size. Air screws 1.5 turns out. Solid
Only issue is the rear brake is a little soft. The old shoes looked fine so I didn’t install the new ones I had. I’ll change that here soon.
Other than that I’d say this build is wrapped up and done. Just in time for Buffalo Ny winter 😐 ;D
More Pics coming soon.

Since winter is fast approaching Buffalo, you could always ship it down here to TX, I would keep her cleaned and tuned!

Steve only has 2 registered bikes.
His plates are using Dzus fasteners so he can swap them quickly and cops can't tell the difference between one old bike and another.

All done and running beautifully. Carbs are dialed in. Jetting was very simple on this one. Up one size on the pilot, up one size on the main.

The bike looks terrific, Cam.  A real sleeper.  I like the many subtle mods, especially the seat.

I think you have the fastest 650/550 in Upstate NY, having beaten GV and Nick in completing the build.

Cam, that looks very very nice.  Hope you can get the rear brakes sorted quickly.  Have you sanded the drum? Roughing up and breaking any glaze that may exist on the drum and the shoes could improve things.  Worth trying and riding 50-100 miles  and using the rear brake to break it inmight be worthwhile.  Then throw a new set of Ferrodo shoes from Vintage Brake on if they do not improve.  Any glazing should come off easy enough with some coarse sandpaper...even if they do not look glazed it cannot hurt them.

Anyone have a metal fork brace replacing the fender mounts with some high carbon steel twice as thick as the stock fork brace built into the fender.  Have it chromed and then rivet it to the fender.  Or rivet it and then chrome the fender and its mounts/fork brace.

Would be interesting to see what a bone stock rebuilt 550, 605cc C.I. build, 605 dynoman, and a 650/550 hybrid stacked up on the dyno and then on a mountain road with lots of curves.
The dyno graphs and lap times for the course with the course being ran 3x to reduce variation.

Beautiful looking bike.
Please explain the "2700rpm at 70mph" . is that a typo or do you guys go all out on gearing them down (or up as we say here) ?
My 650 would be doing about 5500rpm then.

Scunny- Thank you! I used the stock CB550 gearing (17/37). Not sure how I will like this long term.
I’ll put some more miles on it and decide. A 40 tooth rear sprocket would get me very close to stock cb650. I will say I enjoy the cruising smoothness, and the power band is right there if I need it.
