Rickman Honda tanks and straps
« on: February 21, 2017, 09:35:59 AM »
Hi all, I'm considering here in the UK about having a Rickman CR ally petrol tank made by Holtworks and wondered if any of you have used them for any tanks.
also is there anywhere UK or USA that makes the central support strap.
Originally I was going to re use the steel tank and fibreglass tank cover that came with it but for a few reasons i'm changing it
Any thoughts appreciated

Sorry I have no thoughts on this subject but I was wondering if you were a captain. Like on a ship?

Hi Keith, any interest in selling the tank and cover?

Dear captaink,

There are several members that have built or restored Rickman Hondas.  You may want to conduct a search and reach out to the personally by PM.

Just one example is hagar24's project http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,147679.0.html

Cap'n,

The original tank strap for the Rickman CR was rubber with bent thin wire ends that fit over the front mounting studs and the rear part that bolted to the battery box area. Those straps haven't been available for many years although I got lucky and found a NOS one for my current Rickman-Honda restoration. My first Rickman CR used a nylon strap with a plastic buckle, and wire mounts from an original strap. It worked well but looked a little strange.

You might want to consider having one made from leather belting or nylon webbing.

BTW, have you decided which tank maker you prefer? Holtworks? The Tank Shop? or ???

The construction of the Holtworks is fantastic.  The Tank Shop has a fantastic reputation, too, but a hefty waiting time.

Thanks for the feedback, CRF. I really like the Holtworks quality but I already have two original fiberglass tanks and I'm saving my scheckels for a Rickman front hub. I hate the look of the tiny front rotor!  RR
