The std springs do have very heavy tension.

However, you can reduce the tension by stretching the original spring a bit. Remove the spring and place one of the bent up coils in the vice, Then with a pair of gips, moles, pliers ets, pull the other end bent up coil. Don't go mad but pull it enough so that the overall spring length is stretched by a couple of mm and then try it.

It does make a difference but do it carefully or you may find that there is not enough tension to close the throttle valves? If that happens you would need to cut off the existing bent up coil and bend another one up.

My throttle felt MUCH lighter after I replaced my cables this summer. It was so light it was a bit disconcerting at first. It actually felt quite WRONG until I got used to it. I had just sort of gotten used to the heavy feeling. Now granted my Pull cable was probably worse than yours, because it was dragging, but the point is a new cable made a Huge difference in throttle feel. I got Motion Pro cables FWIW. I'd say for $20 even if it doesn't completely solve the problem it's worthwhile to try it before replacing the stock spring since we know throttle cables wear out, and return springs seldom do. From my POV there is nothing wrong with the stock spring.

My old cable (I'm only running one) is fine, I lubed it before I installed it and tested it after I routed it to make sure I hadn't messed it up, but the spring on the carbs is ridiculously stiff.

 I know, folks here will say that's not true, but these were a random set of carbs I bought somewhere, and I've had other carbs with much softer springs, so who knows? I'll fit the new spring and see how it works on my bike.
