Yes, the HONDA gods have smiled on me again. A good friend of mine that I had not seen in 4 years called me the other day and said he had a 1969 CB750 to sell me. Told me to bring lots of money as it was a sandcast. He had to text me a pic in order for me to believe him. I asked him the engine number and he said there is no number on the case. Found out the original owner (his father) broke a chain and changed out the cases. Now comes the strange part. In the owners manual for this bike is the HONDA warranty card with his fathers name and case number of 1005987, but the build date is 11/69. This has me confused as I thought the sandcast cases were no longer used after September 1969. Maybe someone can fill me in on this issue. The frame number is 1012665 if that helps ID it. The original owner passed away and his son said his father never threw any parts out and he is sure he has the cases, title and airbox in the barn which he is going to get for me. I see the diecast cases have the chain protector near the front sprocket. This blue/green bike has 11,999 miles on the clock and the speedo and tach work smooth. In fact, the speedo and tach faces and cases look so good I am going to keep them on the bike. Engine turns over good. Brought the bike home last week and can tell it was in a barn with all the dust on it. The bike is a very nice survivor. Tank is rusty inside and will clean up. Side covers have all tabs, but one tab was broke and still on the bike. Double cut front fender in nice shape. Duckbill seat foam is flat, but the cover is in very good condition with no tears. Recessed ignition and key in place. The license plate says 1979. All chrome is really decent, but I will have that redone anyway. OEM chain guard and acorn mirrors in place. PO put on cushy white hand grips, finned engine covers and crash bars which I removed. 4 cable carbs with pods rejetted to 130 mains. 3 of the 4 slides are stuck, but happy the son did not force the throttle cables. Glad to see float bowls are drained and clean. Appears he cut the headers off the at the muffler and ran straight pipes. The son is going to see if the OEM mufflers are still in the barn. Nice to find the OEM side stand and center stand still in place. Fork ears are not bent, but PO drilled a hole in front right ear. Rear fender has small hole from antenna. My friend gave me a nice deal on the bike and I am not going to list it here. If you have to know send me a PM. He has restored a number of other bikes and said he knows how the cost mounts up fast so kept the price manageable for me. He is a true friend to do that and to locate the other parts still in the barn. My plans...to clean the bike up and get it running in the condition it is in. Might have to toss on some 341's just to drive it as my local law would not like the straight pipes...or maybe pick up some 300's. Maybe drive it around a bit this summer and then do the rest of the work next winter. Forgot to mention it has the wrinkle tank too.
