what oil to use.

I know the manual says to use 10w40 in my 75 cb750. Am I right in seeing somewhere here on the forum that 20w50
is better

think that 10/40 is a bit thin..and make the engine rattel..some more then using thikker oil..but thek the handbook..in the running  tempreture make the oil thange over the range..10/40 is only a universel idea..

10W-40 Ok if pistons or rings are new. Oil for motorcycle and wet clutch. Car motor oil will probably cause clutch slip due to the antifriction stuff in it.
Oils have been up before, just search. Maybe you'll find Spectro motorcycle oil or Red line motorcycle oil. 20W-50 is the common choice.

10W-40 if using the bike when weather is colder. This has been up in the forum. Maybe 5-15*C

There's a can of worms.

I ran 20w50 motorcycle oil for the first 15 minutes on the rebuilt engine, now I'm running rotella t5. I think maybe it's 15w40.

It's a diesel oil, but word is it's great for old motorcycles because of its zinc content, and for some reason doesn't have friction modifiers like gas engine oil does (presumably because diesel is an oil itself)

My fav response to this age old queston:

It has been over 5 years since we discussed which engine oil is preferred.

No it hasn't...

Which oil do you use/recommend in my situation?

100% Pure Extra Virgin Olive Oil...

Where do you buy your oil?

At an olive farm that sells virginal olives...

Thanks!

Don't mention it! ;)

Yeah, lets get to some serious less arguable questions, like what tires to use?

This post from back in '05 is interesting. Saying that the oil temp/weight table is a printing error.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=5930.0

If it is an error, and it looks like it is, it's saying anything close to or above 60°f should be using 20w 50.

I'm going to sleep now. Hopefully this thread doesn't self destruct by the time I wake up.

Can I cool the debate a bit down by introducing the oil cooler?  ;D
Now in seriousness. I remember having read that back then Honda tested several oils to determine which oil reached the cam first. That's essential because that's where wear takes place at every cold start and the cams actually suffer most at idle. Automotive engineers usually say that every cold start effects in more wear than 200 kms of riding.

..all oil drain aut and back in the sump. on the simpel Honda filter..,
,,so a good idea to build automobile types filters on..they have a  return oil valve..so the oil dont running back aut of the filter.

.so no priming of the vhole filter housing is needet..its just go to pressure at almost first kick..

+1 During my automotive apprenticeship I was told that over an engines lifetime, 80% of the engine's wear happens when it's cold...

because of my ignorance i used car motor oil in my "new to me cb750 k6".  if i switch over to motorcycle oil will it improve clutch response?  i'm not necessarily saying my clutch feels bad but i'm sure being a 40 year old bike that sat for over two years with the PO it would be wise to check the clutch for proper adjustment and use the correct oil.
