RC51 in Michigan, 9,000 miles for $3995.00. Don't know if that is a good price or not but sounds so compared to new bikes.  https://grandrapids.craigslist.org/mcy/6057039424.html

Can you grab that bargain for me please Eric, it'd cost twice that much here in Oz! Just put it in the container with that minty GT750K and a few K0's to fill it up, and I'll cut you a check? Thanks mate! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Think there is just enough room to squeeze that in Terry  ;)

Seems like not a bad deal but I wonder if it's been down since it has race/track bodywork.

Yeah, I suppose that would affect it's value as a collectable, but I've got a couple of modern bikes that have had light drops, and still ride straight. The funny thing is that my 1969 K0 looks like it was dragged out of a sewer sideways, and is probably worth more than my more pristine modern bikes! ;D

No bike I have ever ridden has shifted as smooth as my RC.  The transmission was exceptional.

Same gearbox as the VTR1000 I think? I've only ridden my current one around the block so I haven't noticed anything special about the gearbox so far, but it should be on the road soon, so I'll report back once I've racked up some miles on it. ;D

I'm not sure, Terry.  Some say that the RC51 got extra TLC in manufacture/assembly as an HRC bike, as opposed to just design for race homologation.  I don't know for sure if that's urban legend or truth.  All I know is that the shifting was buttery smooth on mine -- better than even my newish FZ-09. I've heard the same from other RC owners.  While the overall size specs were the same as on the VTR as the VTR1000RR or RVT1000RR, the internals definitely had differences.

Ha ha, well he asked for a pic of my 750 and says he likes it, so we'll see, luckily I've still got my K0 project, so if it comes off I won't be entirely CB-less......... ;D

I watched this YouTube video where a guy on a 2004 SP2 raced another guy on a 2012 CBR1000RR in a drag race, I presumed the newer 4 with way more BHP would win, but the RC51's torque helped him walk away from the CBR. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Pretty much.  HP sells bikes and torque wins races.

I will add the 1000rr should walk on the rc with comparable riders the torque is nice but in comparison to the inline fours it doesn't stand a chance in straight aways.  It's the corners where these thrive

If would be interesting to see what it would look like if the riders switched bikes.  The guy on the CBR isn't very good. It would have been a little closer if the riders were more equal. The magazine 1/4 mile test times between the RC and the CBR were pretty close back in the day, with the CBR a little ahead.  I'd take an RC over the CBR any day tho.

Torque can make up for some of the lower horsepower.

Ha ha, I love it when folks under-estimate the wonderfulness of torque. I know how Hildo feels, this happens to me on my Harley Sporty or BMW boxer often, young folks in particular just don't understand that lots of BHP gives you top end speed, but lots of torque lets you walk away from sportsbikes from a standing start. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I watched this YouTube video where a guy on a 2004 SP2 raced another guy on a 2012 CBR1000RR in a drag race, I presumed the newer 4 with way more BHP would win, but the RC51's torque helped him walk away from the CBR. Cheers, Terry. ;D

the only problem with that argument is that the sp2 makes 105nm of torque and the fireblade makes 115 , so it probably wasnt that terry .

Yeah, and I don't have access to all the info Simon, but I guess it depends where within the rev range both bikes make their peak torque. My Triumph Rocket III makes 147 foot pounds at the rear wheel, and 90% of that torque at 2000 RPM! Now I'm not saying that's the case for the RC51, but I'm guessing that the RC51's peak torque comes in well before the Fireblade's? Cheers, Terry. ;D

more torque is more torque terry you just have to rev a 4 more . it is a common misconception that twins [ especially v twins ] make more torque than four cylinder bikes
its not true . generally twins make there peak torque at lower revs to fours so when ridden slow they feel like they have more .
and torque does not win races power does , good racers rev bikes hard and dont rely on torque to make up for poor riding .
