I would like to share a method for installing engine seals. Problem: after seal is installed, it leaks because the seal is damaged or the spring popped off the seal. Solution: take a soda bottle, and cut out a rectangular piece. Wrap this around the shaft that will receive the seal, making sure the ends overlap a bit, and extends past the shaft by an inch or so. You can break sharp edges with fine sandpaper before installing the seal. Grease the seal's inner sealing surface, and slide the seal over the plastic sleeve you created. Install the seal as you normally would, then pull the sleeve out. The seal will be installed with no risk of folding over the edge or damaging the spring. I did this trick for decades as a master auto tech, Audi, Porsche, MB,etc.
