Hey folks. I just signed up to the forum, although I'm a long time lurker. I have a CB750k2.

Just did an oil change. Reassembled and filled up with new oil. Poured old oil out and found the spring seat washer at the bottom of the oil pan. Amateur move.

It's ok to not have it till th next oil change, or should I just re open it up and install.

Also, if I do, reusing the same oil is not kosher cause i might bring in the engine sone unbeknownst gunk, yah?

You're overthinking it.

Put the spring in where it belongs.  Top off the oil level, and don't worry about it.

  • To many bikes-but lookin' for more
He is talking just about just the thin washer that goes between the spring and filter in the housing which probably more than 50% of the bikes out there don't currently have in right now anyways. It will be fine but if you did want to put it back in the only oil you would lose is what is in the filter and the housing. Out of all the 750's I have  bought only a couple ever still had it in there. Just make sure its orientated correctly, bought a couple where it was all backwards  ::)

Agreed, the washer sticks to the filter so many people throw it out. Yes, it'll work without the washer, but I would open it up and reinstall, then top off with fresh oil.

If you've ran the engine after adding your new oil it's definitely circulated. I think if you let the bike sit for probably just a few hours most the oil will be settled in the bottom and not near the filter height.

I did the same thing but with the spring and found out about the seating washer after researching and realized it was missing. Found a generic washer at the hardware store that served the purpose.

Get your oil catch pan under the filter housing, remove the housing, install washer and spring, re-install housing, and then replace what oil you lost(not much) with new oil.

I however, did not put the oil catch pan under the filter though.  ::)
