No worries Lars, good work mate, and I'm always impressed with how clean other guy's work places are. One day, as God is my witness, my garage will be tidy too! (probably) ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Good job putting another 750 on the road Terry. That gas tank looks familiar. That's cool you could pop that dent out without hurting the paint. I know I woulda screwed it up! I am not a paint & body kind of a guy so I have to pay for that kind of work.

Ha ha, thanks Fred, the more I think about this bike, the more I realise just how many members here have had a hand in the build! That "Ding King" thing is a hard way to pull a dent, but patience is the key.

I bought what should have been a better mousetrap with a hand lever to pull the dents up, but the hot glue I used with the ding king doesn't seem to stick to the pulling tabs, which pisses me off, so I just keep going with the King.

I've got a couple more little things to do today, then I'll have no excuses, it'll be time to take it off the bench and take it for a (very) short ride. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ha ha, imagine that mess multiplied by 100 Per, and you'd be close to what my garage looks like! Well the good news is we've got a new addition to the family, a little male cat, currently unnamed. I did suggest "Poopy Head" Jerry, but the wife said "no".

I'm sitting here at work ruminating on the phenomenon of grief and grieving. I've learned that my wife will be almost inconsolable when one of her cats falls off the perch, but if we get her a new cat, then the joy of holding a new furry family member reduces her grief exponentially. I wonder if it'd work with humans too? You know, Grandpa snuffs it after a long illness, so we race down to the local orphanage and pick up a cute little baby (or a discarded cheerleader) and everybody's happy again?

It works for me with bikes, I become attached to most of my bikes, so I grieve their loss when I (rarely) sell one or trade one off, but am overjoyed when a new(ish) one comes home. Take my situation, for instance, while I love my RC51, I still grieve the loss of my old K1 bitsa, but now that my K2 Redneck bitsa is almost on the road, I'm not missing my K1 at all. I think I'm starting to understand my wife...... ;D

Many years ago my youngest sister was given a male ginger kitten. She called it Winkie. Her boyfriend at the time said that was a stupid name for a cat and started calling it Boofhead. It was never called Winkie again.

Yep, no pics of the little cat yet as I can't make him stand still, but being an Abyssinian, I'm thinking Ramesses would be a great name, but as I have no input apart from paying for him, he'll probably end up being called Trevor.

Sooo, back to the bike. I'd fitted those cheap Chinese horns on the weekend, but ran out of interest before I got to wire them. Tonight after work it was a balmy 70 deg F, so I wandered out to the patio with a Jack Daniels and Coke Zero to do some wiring. As I'd previously mentioned, I borrowed a horn relay from the Stebel air horn that I bought but was way too big. I'd also bought a wiring harness from an Aussie seller that was meant for a car, so first I just connected everything, and was happy with the loud honk compared to the standard "meep". I then shortened the harness by a couple of feet and routed it thru the frame.

Redneck Monday Horn Wiring by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I was gonna hook up the fuel lines to the tank but then remembered that it needs to come off again so I can hook up my patient lifter to get the bike off the bench, so just sat it in place, and tomorrow I'll do some more "Ding King-ing" to see if I can't pull that dent right out. I also need to put some oil in the forks, and probably add an air kit to make up for the lack of progressive springs. Then I need to adjust the rear brake again, and install a split pin, so I don't die in a fiery death. Good news is the weather should be pretty good all week, so I can do it slow and lazy, the way I like it........... ;D

Thanks Bobby, I was thinking last night, as the Police helicopter continually circled my house at 1am, "you'll never take me alive, coppers!", but I digress.

I think this has been the most enjoyable bike build I've done in many years, building a bike from scratch just starting with an engine and bare frame I'd done several times, but having the patio as my open air workshop has been a real boon.

It's been really nice to have the bike up on that old desk that doubled as the late, great, Sally the wonder-dog's kennel, it was at just the right height for me, and I did most of the jobs sitting down, as I find that I do my best work sitting down. I think this also improved the quality of the work I did, and I certainly cut less corners than usual.

Anyway, I've got a couple more jobs to do tonight, then I need to take a look at that other tank, it's nice and rust free now, but desperately needs some panel beating. More to come...... ;D

I like your build too!! The tank has a good color. Good looking patina.
It should be closer for all of us posting in your thread so we could be there like sitting in a bar with correct stuff to drink and get ideas that becomes better and better with the increasing ethanol content in our bloodstreams! :)

CB750 build can start as the dinosaur hunters that have found a part of a toe and can build the huge carnosaur from that small piece of start.
Enough with a bolt to start with and find the rest on eBay and friends!!

Ha ha, I might have to try that one day Per, I'll start with a bolt and build a bike around it! ;D

Anyway, more little jobs tonight after work. I thought the bike was running a little lean at idle last time I fired it up, I'd initially set the mixture screws at 1.5 turns out, but looking at the Hondachopper site saw that they recommended 1 turn out so re-adjusted them all. I also re-adjusted the rear brakes, I'd been having all sorts of concerns until I realised that the brake pivot arm was incorrectly installed on the splined shaft.

Once I was able to adjust it properly, I actually had rear brakes, woohoo! I was so happy I found an "R" pin (not an "R" sole)  for the rear axle.

Redneck R pin by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I remembered that I needed some sidecovers, so I went thru some boxes and found a nice pair of Franky's finned covers in black. I found a can of silver paint and gave them a squirt, but didn't like the shade, so found half a can of 10 year old candy "Blood red" and slopped it over the top. Too dark for the tank of course, but no money spent on fancy store bought matching paint, No-Sir-Ree-Bob!

Redneck rattlecan sidecovers by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I thought about putting some oil in the forks but remembered that all I had was some engine oil, so decided to get some of that fancy fork oil on the way home from work tomorrow. I'll try to steal some of course, but if the worst becomes the worst, I'll buy it........... ;D

The OEM Japanese fish oil is superior. A bit pricey at $30 qt.   ;)

Sorry guys, I was just overwhelmed by the majesty of those sidecovers, God they look good! Anyway, what were we talking about, fork oil?

I've used engine oil, ATF, and even real fork oil over the years, and to be honest, haven't noticed a whole lot of difference between any of them, but in the interests of "doing it right first time" I'll go buy some 10 weight Penrite fork oil on my way home from the ol' salt mine.

I've got a NOS air fork kit I've been meaning to install in a box somewhere, I bought a heap of them "back in the day", I must dig it out and install it while I've got the caps off. More to follow, over. ;D

Thanks guys, those covers of Frankie's are excellent. I decided against spending money on fancy pants fork oil today, and just used good old engine oil. Of course, nothing worth doing is ever going to be without it's problems, so the first issue I discovered tonight was that my forks were leaking!

Redneck Wednesday air forks 3 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Bugger. OK, now I could have carefully disassembled my forks, but fcuk that, that's not the Redneck way, am I right? So I jacked it up, dropped the front wheel out and was both happy and sh1t frightened when I discovered that the reason for the leak was that the fork's PO had (for reasons best not asked) loosened the screws that hold the damper rods in place, and the oil was leaking past the copper washers. The leak was actually a good thing, if it wasn't for that, the forks could well have fallen apart at warp speed, which could have been terminal...........

Redneck Wednesday air forks 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Anyway, once I cleaned out my undies, I found my air fork kit.

Redneck Wednesday air forks 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I love these things, the first one I installed was on my Kawasaki Z900 back in the mid 1980's (wow, 30 years ago, I'm getting old!) and with the Marzocchi Strada air shocks on the rear, it handled reasonably well, without the usual sagging common on big heavy bikes of the era. I bolted it all up, but won't put any air in them until the sealant I used on the threads has set.

Anyway, all that took a couple of hours, and by then I'd had enough for one day, it was cold, it was raining a little, and it was time for a drink. I threw on those sidecovers and liked what I saw. More tomorrow! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I guess I hadn't really noticed how small that desk was you use for a stand. Scares me, but obviously all right.

And that propane tank appears to be levitating.   ???

As to the overall look, it could use some more chrome.   ;)

I'm sure its been covered, but what pipe is that?
