1973 CB 500 oil drip at shifter

It's been a couple of years and 3000 mile since I finished restoring and it has dripped oil out the shifter the whole time, especially while hot. Had 8000 miles on it then, now has 11400. Looks like an old harley has been sitting there. It doesn't drip enough to require adding oil, just enough to leave sign. After it cools down it stops dripping. I've taken the side off a couple of times but can't see why it drips.

Pull out and replace the seal #5
 91202-216-000

Or do like me and use Castrol GTX High Mileage 15W-40. Stopped leaking at the shifter seal.

That seal is like 4 bucks and pretty easy to replace. Worth doing it, thats for sure.

And verify that there isn't an o-ring chain that's too wide. Not sure about the 500s, but the 550s have a seal that the an oversize chain will rub and create a leak.

+1. Sounds like the beginnings of a shifter seal breakdown.  It will only get worse.  Replace.  Super simple to do

Okay, I have a new seal from 4into1.  What's the trick for removing the old seal???

Never mind, I did get it off with a scribe and the new one is a different size!! crap.
