Spring for 78 550K carb ... any suggestions
« on: June 02, 2005, 04:16:59 PM »
My bike is missing just a spring for the Keihin carb.  It's a 78 cb550k .   Wondering if you all have a suggestion for a replacement or can recommend somewhere to find one.  All I can find is ALL 4 complete kits for 80 euros... OUCH!  Are the springs the same size in any other models... or does anyone have a dead carb that they can spare a few bits from??

Thanks!

I just counted 12 springs in the carb bank assembly.
4 on the slide pivots
3 on the slide adjusters
2 on the choke acuators
1 on the main idle adjust
1 on the fast idle adjuster
1 for main slide acuator pivot.

No wonder it's 80 Euros...

Are they all the same size?  If not I will have to ask the guy taking mine apart which one it is... thanks for the count though.. that IS a lot of springs.  This one is small, would be found in a carb kit.  Apperently the guy before me used a spring from a pen!  Not the best idea.

Any suggestions for somethig better?

The only springs in the kits are for the pilot air screws and those are  roughly the same diameter as a pen spring,I should have one but I`ll check through my spare carb parts tomorrow & if I do I`ll drop it in an envelope and send it to you. What part of the world are you in? You can e-mail or PM me your address.

Oh, >inside the carbs<.  Well there's four more, then.   Each idle pilot screw has one, meters fuel.   And, a small washer goes in there to seat the spring onto.  I guess it sort of looks like one from a pen.  Way stronger, though.  A pen type spring probably wouldn't hold it's setting under vibration.  But, it was probably better than no spring.

Anyway, that makes seven different kinds of springs on these carbs.  Not counting the little wire device on the float valves.  It's kind of springy, too.

When you find out, for sure, what you need, and if you are willing to pay shipping from 95035 in the US, let me know.
