K1 836 Hot Rod named "The Rat Race" after the rat that was shot at while sitting on the seat. .22 cal through and through the other seat.
I'm calling this one a rider, It's ready for the third test ride, I honed the cylinder and re-ringed it, put on the PO's lengthened swingarm and ported rebuilt head, RC315 cam and packed the RC muffler, rebuilt the front brake again, changed to the 18 tooth front sprocket, notched the aftermarket chain guard and fixed the non-working charging system. It now has a stock rebuilt 78F clutch assembly instead of the 9 disc red clutches. It also got a set of F1 forks lowered with cb500 progressive springs with the original K1 gauges and triple trees. It had modified cb500 triple trees for the 45mm offset but both top triple clamps were broken.
I learned a little about the gerex ignition, if voltage is low, get it above 3K rpm so it's not multi sparking. 12.5 to 1 pistons just kick start hard, it's not seized. L0L!
A collection of parts sometimes goes past the point of what it was. It gains a heritage made by where it's been and who put their parts and heart and soul into it.
Steve Egli built it with RC engine parts, Gerex ignition, Lester mags, and Mikuni carbs. He built it, raced it, broke it and repaired it. I made it run again with parts Steve sold me, a couple of my parts and the seat and rear fender from Tom Campbells old drag bike. It could not have lived on without the teaching of my brother Bud, Tom, Charlies Cycle Supply, and the guys at sohc4 forum.
