Guitarist here.
Haven't played in a band since the 70s, though.
Back then I lived in a farmhouse along with the band members. We had our gear all set up in the large room, and played whenever we got the whim, at least daily, and for hours and hours.
We got pretty good, and to the point that when jamming, we'd surprise ourselves with making random unplanned cord changes in unison. Never figured out what ques allowed us to do that without any sort of signaling. What we seriously lacked was a gig manager to get us paid for it. We lasted a year before the money ran out, and we had to find other situations that would pay bills and feed ourselves. Up until a few years ago, I still played regularly, playing to backing tracks, echoplex (really refines musical timing), collecting guitars and equipment experimentation.
Now I live on another farm of sorts. When I get settled in here, maybe I can find some bandmates again, and the chops will return before the arthritis gets too bad? Look toward a stadium near you! Ha ha.
Cheers,
