Cell Phone Signal Boosters / Repeaters ?
« on: July 18, 2017, 09:51:04 AM »
Moved to a new place (ex got the house, of course  >:( ). Cell reception is pretty bad. Considering a cell booster/repeater.

Any thoughts, recommendations, advice, on what to get? Cheaper is better (see above  >:( ).

Afaik a cell phone signal booster has to be supplied by your service provider.

Another option is to poll your neighbors and find out what provider has the best signal in your area and consider switching.

I could never get the cell phone booster/router that T-Mobile gave us to play well with my AT&T router. Your best bet would be to get the best internet speed you can with your DSL provider and use wifi calling over your phone and if you need wifi boosters go that route.

My sister got one for her ATT in a mountainous lake region. It apparently works over the net through WiFi. Does the job.

wifi is spotty here, too - even with a booster - so that isn't much help.

Been looking at stuff like this:

Uh, wifi signal is based on the signal strength of your wireless router and your proximity to it at your domicile. You can extend the range of it with boosters or directional antennas.

yeah, the wifi router is about 75ft away in another building & I have a booster for that.

I need something to boost CELL signals

My take is about the only REAL way to boost cell signals is to install a closer tower.

Like Jerry said if your wifi signal is weak and a wifi booster won't help you make wifi calls the only solution is a closer tower or a different provider with better coverage. What carrier do you currently use?

Don't bother with wifi calling, it's horrible. http://www.cel-fi.com.au/ is expensive but well worth the money.

Wifi calling works great on my phone but then again I have Gigabit fiber so YMMV.  :)

Years ago, when Sprint turned Nextel off, their solution to my coverage issue at my house was to SELL me one of those devices, and CHARGE ME A MONTHLY FEE to use it.

I'm with Verizon now, and my phone works in my BASEMENT!!

Like Stan said you may want to take a look at Verizon, they really do have better coverage in most locations.
