Very well done cautionary tale
« on: December 22, 2006, 08:29:54 AM »
I was sent this by a friend.  It is very well done, but something of a bummer, so I hesitated to pass it on.  But it is good, so I decided to post it.

I live in Bolton (near Manchester, UK) and for 47yrs I never saw a deer in my life!!  Then a couple of months ago I was riding on the outskirts of Bolton on a road which goes through a forest (near Belmont) and I caught sight of a huge deer on my right running right toward me. As I slammed the brakes on, snaking to a halt, it leapt over a fence onto the road in front of my wheel and then across into the other part of the forest.

I was millimetres from being dead!! I could almost smell the damned thing as it went by me. Jeez, it was scary and its made me much more cautious when riding through similar wooded areas.

Sobering is right.

That shook me almost as much as the real thing.

I wish everyone who rides had to see this.  Especially the full-speed don't-look-now crotch rocket crowd.

But none of us are immune.

This is definitely a video my sons should see. Very convincing and moving.
I have had my share of crashes, and his reactions were spot on.

Call me wimpy but I could have done w/o that ending even though w/ the pink brush I knew it was coming.  Several years ago here in Ga a patch of kudzu was cleared for a building project and a motorcyclist's remains were found.  He had been missing for several years buried in that Kudzu patch.

That kudzu is some scary stuff. It appears to swallow things whole. I'm sure he's not the only one lost in that stuff. Creepy (no pun intended).
