Daggless,

I'm inclined to nominate the bike BUT I'd prefer to do so for February.  January already has 3 bikes up for nomination.  Just my $0.02 but voting for more than 3 bikes really thins down the votes per bike versus being a more straight-forward binary vote.  That said, if 2 members get impatient and you accept, it's out of my hands.  Plus, none of the 3 nominated so far has accepted -- but it's only December 4th.

Compliance been done. Have a list of 6 things I need to do to pass. Front mudguard is 40mm too short. I have the original gsxr guard that I can put on to clear it. Need a reflector on the rear number plate!!!! A couple of nuts needed replacing with loc nuts. Swing arm pivot bolt is 7mm too short. Needs to have 2 threads past the locking nut. Will need to get a new one made or get original lengthened. Will sort that out this week. Having an issue with charging. Just tracing all the wires back to find out what’s going on. Scratching my head a bit at the moment.

Make sure the battery NEG cable is pinched between bare metal and the motor mount. Painted frames will interfere with that.

Then chase the Reg/Rec wiring for the GREEN and the BLACK. The GREEN needs a really good connection to Earth, and the BLACK wants a solid connection to your switched 12v circuit. These tend to be the most common points of reduced charging connections.

Thanks Cal. I chased all the negatives and roughed up a couple that looked like they needed cleaning. There’s a voltage reading on the speedo and I noticed it dropped when I went round the block. Put the meter on the battery and it would charge from 2000 rpm up till 4000. Then it would just stop charging until I turned it off and back on again. Almost like it would reset itself. Then as soon as hit 4K it would turn off again. I grabbed reg/rectifier off other bike and put it in and problem gone. Was a brand new one but must have got a dodgy unit. So now we need to tidy everything up again and get on with the tuning.

Cheers SOHC. I’m picking it will be late January before I get all the bits n pieces completely sorted. Off to Australia for a bit of r n r straight after Xmas. Hoping to get back down to Phillip island for the international classic. Really enjoyed the racing there last year.

After seeing the number of bikes nominated I was inclined like SOHC recommended to hold off until Feb nominations are opened up.

Hope you enjoy the Christmas on the beach and the racing at Phillip Island.

Cheers RAF. looking forward to a break and some good weather. Unfortunately the beach isn’t looking good for us this year. Wettest December on record or close to it. Limited ride time lately. Enjoy the snow and the holidays.

Have been chasing my electrical problem for a good month. The battery would discharge when the bike was running and would hold its charge when turned off. The ignition switch burnt out which was weird as no load was on it. Just straight form battery to ignition and back to moto gadget. I put a good reg/rec in and thought my problem had gone. Checked the search engine of the forum and got the multi meter out and chased everything I could think of. Thought it was the field coil so took it out and tested it on the battery and turned magnetic instantly so put it all back together and found that the field coil was shorting out against the cover. There’s a small clip wrapped around the 2 wires that was resting on the cover when installed. Bent this up and problem instantly fixed. I still find electricity confusing but fingers crossed it appears to be working correctly. It’s charging a healthy 14.5 volts now. Just need to wait for a new ignition switch to arrive. Went for a good ride today and the mid range this bike has compared to others is brilliant. The straight shot manifolds and bigger valves Makes a noticeable difference. I need to get the certifier guy back now for its final check. He needs to take it for a ride to make sure it rides ok. Can’t wait to see his face when he gets back :-). Once I get it registered I want to get it straight onto the Dyno just to see where it’s sitting. I’m picking a healthy 55hp. Just in time for some good weather over the next few months.
