CB500F 2013 Steering bolt shearing
« on: September 15, 2017, 08:57:11 PM »
Looking to gather data. I have had two bolts shear off from my left hand steering arm mount.

History: Have had the bike from 1000 km (one minor driveway drop and only a scratch on exhaust) now its at 45000 and 4 years old. (Two minor drops both after first bolt broken) First had no damage to bike except a scratch on the handle bar and mirror. Second drop bent the brake leaver and nothing else both under 5km per hour. So no hard knocks or accidents that I feel would bend a frame.

Nov 2016 Oggi knob (slider protector) sheared off leaving part of the bolt recessed into the engine mount. This was drilled out and original honda bolt put back into the bike.

Sept 2017 Bolt sheared off in the same manner but now the frame is bent as well.

Looking to gather data or look for others with this bolt shearing problem. I've found three others so far.

I love my bike and am very dissapointed. Now weather is fantastic and no bike.

Welcome to the forum but your bike is a little out of our category around here. Some smart guys here though to hopefully give you some advice. Is there a forum dedicated to these newer machines ? Do you have any old bikes also ?
